S7 Gallavich💜🩵🤍 requested by @m1ckeys-3lite <3
I was determined to finish this in one day because I’m stubborn and very stupid so I stayed up all night and now I’ll have to go to work with 3 hours sleep😭😭
(Was worth it)💅🏼✨
Being in a fandom for 20+ years is weird because you’ll see posts like, “How come I never see people mention x” and it’s like. We did. We talked about that a lot, actually. Actually it’s something that came up. And it’s hard not to be like, “Yeah, we discussed this fifteen years ago.” Half of this fandom wasn’t even born when these discussions happened. Wild.

Honestly, new fans need to know this shit...
You see, I’ve been here a while. However, even if you were just here from season 5 onward… you know a lot of shit went down.
We already knew going into season 5 that Ian was going to cheat on Mickey, so many of us were upset. Nancy Pimental took credit for one of the scenes where Ian did cheat on Mickey, stating:
“I take credit for all of that [Ian cheating on Mickey with another dad, while the strollers sit a few feet away from them.] I just had that image of these two guys…and having the babies, because it was so, “it’s so icky.” (x)
I’ve highlighted other issues with the article here as well, because she also wrote some messed up stuff about their relationship. That’s another thing, they made #Gallavich out to be a regularly violent couple leading up to 5x10 so they could turn around and be like, they were always violent! What are you upset about?
Needless to say, fans were pissed to find out about the infidelity so soon after the two got together. They gave away #Gallavich gear to fans on tumblr, though. Yes. They did that, in order to hype up veteran fans and bait new people into watching.
It looked pretty much like this:
They hyped up #Gallavich a lot. They tweeted about it. They remarked how much Ian and Mickey were like a “married couple,” and so on. They made #Gallavich posts all over their instagram (like so: x)
They shot a special of the whole cast discussing what they like about the pairing. Which, funny enough it seems the original video has been made ‘private.’ It’s no longer working on Out magazine.
All the other Shameless season 5 clips seem to be up. (x) (x) Guess it’s harder to retcon stuff when you have strong evidence that the cast was actually really invested in this pairing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They used Mickey for promos leading up to season 5 (x) (x) (x). They showed a lot of BTS stuff with Noel Fisher. He hung out with the cast a lot (a lot of those videos / photos have been deleted.) This might not seem like a big deal, but at the time it was. Mickey had rarely appeared in promos before, and if he did it was group photos. Yet, this was the season that mistreated him pretty badly even though they promo’d him the most.
Despite the poor ending for Mickey, Noel expressed that he was hopeful for his character suggesting he may not have been aware of how things would end for Mickey. (x) (x) (x) (x) Also, Noel appeared in a BTS video for season 6 (don’t have the link atm.) They put a scene from season 5 in a season 6 promo before season 6 aired, and it confused people into thinking he would be in season 6 (he was in only one episode.)
The baiting … oh god, the baiting…
They were nominated for a GLAAD award, even though they baited fans, deleted intimate scenes between Ian and Mickey, and overall misled people into believing there’d be more representation. It’s pretty ironic that the image they used to celebrate their nomination was this (x):
…because when we saw this? We thought there would be some kind of affection between them to ya know… remind us that these two were actually together? I mean, this picture was circulated well before the episode aired. What actually happened though? Oh yeah, Ian slapped Mickey’s neck for like two seconds and that was it.
Sheila Callaghan hyped up her own episode (5x10), and fans were eager to see it considering that they were revisiting the baseball field. No one expected it to turn out violent. Sheila had a blast over it, apparently:
It was the only scene that aired that season of Ian and Mickey kissing. The sex scene between Ian and Mickey was deleted, which was the only non-violent instance of sexual and romantic intimacy between the pair.
Sheila also wrote the sex scene for 5x03. A lot of fans said it was baiting. She expressed she was bummed out too, but explained it away to fans essentially as a ‘oh well things get edited out’ kind of thing. (x)
They kept promo-ing #Gallavich even after we were upset with them (x). Even when marriage equality was legalized across the country, they used that to promote their show?
The irony in using the “love wins” tag for a couple they broke up in a horrible and homophobic manner (x)
You need to understand that these things happened, if you’re going to look at the situation moving forward. You need to understand why it is that older fans do not trust this show, nor do they trust that Mickey is in good hands. This show has baited before. They have deleted important scenes before, and glorified the worst parts in their relationship in favor of erasing the best parts. We’re not bitter for no reason. It’s built up to this, and all the above were things that just happened in season 5.
Why I have Trust Issues: A Shameless Masterpost
Updated: August 5, 2014
This masterpost has more to do with what everyone responsible for making Shameless what it is, has said or done that is cause for concern and/or relates to my ever growing trust issues with this show. This is a growing list, and if you have something that you think is important to add here, send me a message about it.
I’m not explaining in depth why these things are bothersome, this is really just a collection. If you have further questions, send me a message. This is in no particular order.

Another little fandom history lesson for newbies – Shameless (US) used to compete in the drama category, but John Wells decided to change the category to comedy because he thought they had a better chance at winning awards. He defended the choice saying: “We’d always thought of it as a comedy, and as the series has unspooled, it became clearer” despite the fact that many fans didn’t view it as such. This decision was made after some particularly heavy themes were broached in season 4 (drug addiction, mental illness, abuse, etc.) and Shameless officially became considered a “comedy” the season Ian spiraled out of control. The genre change can be blamed for the discordant exit for Mickey Milkovich, a devastating scene played for laughs. Not only were fans upset, but critics of the show took notice: “Shameless has always walked a fine line between drama and comedy, but this time, in this last, critical scene, Shameless fell right on its comedic face.”
I don't update this blog very often, but I feel this is a mandatory history lesson for new-ish Shameless fans:
Shameless (US) used to compete in the drama category during awards season. The showrunners struggled to get the attention they wanted in that category, so they argued that Shameless (US) was actually a comedy, convincing higher ups that the things that happen to the people in the show are supposed to be funny.
Thus, the show saw a major shift towards "comedic" storylines that favored poking fun the character's lives with no regard for continuity. Showrunners bragged about having a jar of fucked up ideas, and laughed about not knowing how old their characters actually were. They also joked about Mandy being abused by her father. Etc.
The lack of quality and continuity towards the end was intentional bad writing, selling the soul of the show for better awards that they didn't even get. I will never let them live this down. Everyone should know that's why there's very obvious issues in the writing, especially in the last five seasons.
:)
guess who just found out that ian gallagher and kermit the frog share a birthday
