The Vampire Lestat 3.06
iwtv continues to be so smart in its portrayal of memories and trauma, the way lestat’s memories of his family are so obnoxiously loud, everyone’s screaming all the time for no reason and everyone’s acting like caricatures, like an actual assault on the senses, as if lestat’s mind is filled with unbearable noise every time he thinks about them. lestat’s memories coming at him all fragmented and loud and violent, attacking him and beating him into submission as he desperately tries to escape them is such an interesting contrast to how louis would carefully weave a thread of his past pretending the glaring holes in it weren’t there
started this after ep 5, listening to stained glass eyes on repeat

i think lestat being sexually molested by gabriella started much younger than we think. before the wolves. i think this has been discussed with fandom but i’m not sure.
lestats stutter starts when he’s just nine years old. while i believe this can also be due to the physical and mental abuse he suffered at the hands of his father and brothers. or his illiteracy as a child. and while it probably added fuel to the fire. it’s a fact that stuttering can stem from severe child sexual abuse. when we go back into the modern timeline and lestat sees gabriella for the first time, his stutter immediately comes back. this is known as psychogenic stuttering. it appears suddenly, often triggered by something or someone, and is tied to a specific traumatic event.
when armand and daniel leak the revenge “porn” against lestat, he becomes incredibly distressed seeing it. throwing up, shaking, having a panic attack. and stuttering several different times throughout the conversation with louis. he’s trying to justify this relationship to louis, to himself, and to us as the audience, as we know through the failures. but us and louis are able to see through those cracks and are able to understand that what’s happening is wrong. and what’s happening between them is not justifiable.
and maybe a hot take…but i think louis reaction is incredibly raw, and real, to find this information out. even as cruel and heartless as he is about it. but as he understood what was going on, he immediately switches how he reacts to the situation. apologies, holds and comforts lestat, and tells him that it’s okay. grace he has never ever been given by anybody. which is all he ever wanted.
i also noticed in the bar with louis and lestat, louis asks if it ever happened before paris. lestat never answers his question. last time he tried to confront his mother about what she was doing to him, it was shut down, and immediately tells him “i love you” as a way to manipulate him further. because she knows that’s the one singular thing he wants in life from somebody. this is something she does through the entire season, so she can get her way with him.
hmm…i really enjoy lestat trying to get agency back into his life when she is around. i feel super proud of him. i hope within the next episode, we find out more about their relationship, what it means to lestat, and what it means to the show.

and also it's always about claudia. the story remains about two fathers haunted by the memory of their daughter. lestat's music becomes raw and vulnerable and pure when he is haunted by claudia, when he allows himself to think about her again. the entire album is being rerecorded because of claudia. akasha will awake because of the pain of lestat losing his daughter. the story is claudia.
loustat has truly (to me) never been more couple than louis calling lestat and asking him to look at regina and tell him if she really looks like claudia.
like they are NOT on good terms this season, but this is a moment of, "i am showing this painful, infected wound to you because you have a matching one, and you are the only one who can do this for me." like this is a big, extremely vulnerable ask from louis.
and even lestat's quiet "yes. okay." in this request even though things are bad, because this is a request of one parent to another and thus sidesteps the conflict of, "we are supposed to be something to each other, but you didn't even call when i was shot." like louis is louis and the great love of his life, but louis is also the person he raised a child with, and that bond still stands strong enough to call a favor in on.
and louis's tone when lestat brings up claudia's eyes and louis jumps in with, "i know, right? there's no spark." and there is SO MUCH pain in it but also such a moment of, "she was our child and you know her like i did. you know her eyes. talk to me about her because it's the only way she can still exist, and you are the only one she can exist for me with. she was ours."
like there is SO MUCH piled on their relationship, but the way the core of it is, "we are parents without our child, and the only thing stronger than love between us is grief."
No because actually I’m not okay about the song ‘Stained Glass Eyes’ and what it shows us about Lestat. Because Claudia was his daughter, not his sister, not a mere inconvenience he was saddled with, yes he turned her to appease a devastated Louis so he wouldn’t go mad like Nicki, but Claudia was his fledgling. A child of his blood. He taught her to drive, to hunt solo, to play piano and chess, he took her to the movies and span her around the living room with Louis in Rue Royale. He bought her clothes, gifted her Gabrielle’s necklace on her birthday, was concerned about the hemline of her skirt (because he was her MOTHER and that was his BABY), and they had private little jokes together. She was the best of his vampiric self. Then at the trial, after every betrayal and nasty word between them, he didn’t have the strength to save both her and Louis. He picked Louis over her, but he stayed rooted to the spot as Claudia turned to ash, and… he stared right into her eyes until the very end. Her red eyes, red like the blood that restored her to life, the blood that he and Claudia used to playfully call ‘kill juice’ when she was still new to vampirism, the blood that spilled from his own throat during the Mardi Gras ball. Claudia looked at him, ‘like a child looking to her father’, and like Nicki before her, Lestat was helpless to what Armand was doing, another person he loved held to the fire and accepting their miserable fate, burnt to ash with their only remnants being the memory of their agonised eyes forever seared within Lestat’s mind. He failed his daughter, and he will never forget that.

The Fight and the Drop: Inconsistencies and Hints on Lestat's Behavior Shown in the Acting, Directing and Hair and Makeup, Explained to You Like You are Five
Gee, I wonder what could be weird here. They totally didn't leave hints since Season 1.
Not a production, an actual trial with definitive sentences of death.
