Makuha Ka Sa Tingin! I originally submitted this to an online literary folio, but it got turned down. Nonetheless, this piece was dedicated and inspired by my ex-whatever, with whom I have had a hard time lashing out because of his toxic and abusive ways.    The world would’ve worked so differently if we walked in another person’s shoes. “Makuha ka sa tingin!” is another way of saying “Makiramdam ka naman!” (Put yourself in my shoes!) I wanted to evoke empathy and to empower people who are stuck in abusive relationships, like I did before, and who are afraid to speak out about their own struggles as perpetuated by their own partners.  To those who are victims of abuse, and domestic violence alike, there is nothing to be afraid in speaking out when you’ve had enough. Remember that it is not selfish to demand respect when it is due, and that it is not selfish to put yourself first. Do not hesitate to seek help with your loved ones. There are government organizations and LGUs alike in the Philippines that you can reach out to when you are a victim of abuse, their hotlines can be found in this link. Stand firm, and God be always with you.
