It's hard to push past this CI vs Brembo brake disk thing. The most reasonable framing I have for it, is that the upgrades they brought around Miami-Canada had a bad reaction with the brembo disks and not with the CI ones, and since it continued to work on one car, they didn't revert the upgrade and instead tried to make it work with the other car. Tried to see if it was a driving style issue, a setup issue. But now after Monaco they've seen it's most likely to be a brake disc material issue (because one is more affected by colder temperatures=>breaks down) or at least something worth trying to try to resolve that way next race. Something they would've never realized had one car not taken another providers brake discs, and was just lucky/unlucky depending on how you see it.
But after the fuckery that the team subjected Charles to this race (not piting him one lap after HAM + shit comms that bordered on deliberate lying), it's honestly a fucking struggle not to go and think the worse: that either somehow the upgrade was tested or took CI brake discs over Brembos into consideration, or that they didn't allow Charles to try them earlier because of a contract, or that they didn't push enough to try to find a technical solution for him. I really wouldn't think this way if it wasn't for what I saw today with my own eyes, and Charles being so adamant post race that he wouldn't take any of the blame.
no wonder charles couldn’t speak too much. god oh god ferrari when i fucking catch you oh my god
now hold on if this news of hamilton reportedly using carbon industrie brakes since japan of this year is true
then the brembo fuck ass pr statement makes a whole lot of sense because holy shit lmfaaoooooooo that contract is being ripped to pieces as we speak
as we come closer to the likely outcome i think i have figured out what i want to say about this. this being zverev winning a slam.
i understand that winning a slam comes with an amount of pedigree within tennis, and it’s an achievement that comes with a lot of publicity and lauding. on this level i understand the frustration with him winning one.
what i dont agree with is the idea that this fundamentally changes anything. zverev is good at tennis, this is not a moral judgement. he has been a serious contender for many years. as much as it feels vindicating to call him a choker, to make fun of him for not winning one- that is ultimately a selfish feeling because it doesn’t serve any purpose. and in some ways directly obfuscates and trivialises the real issue.
obviously, i don’t think making a joke here and there is necessarily wrong, but i do sometimes worry the overwhelming amount of posts treating players beating him like a game is diluting the seriousness. the posts that only ever call him the rat or another nickname, the posts congratulating people for “exterminating him”- i worry these miss the point. he isn’t some funny little issue, he’s a serial domestic abuser. whether or not a player beats him isn’t them doing a favour for women or for viewers who don’t like him, there is no morality in it.
if it’s more important for you to be able to make fun of him for not reaching some arbitrary point of success than it is for him to be recognised and face consequences for being a serial abuser than your priorities are wrong. i don’t actually think anyone is doing this on purpose, but i think it’s easy to get caught up in our own anger, our own desire to feel better short term.
the first allegations came out i believe in 2020, if zverev had won a slam before that it would not have changed the fact that he’s an abuser. if he’d won every slam since it would not change that fact. on the other hand, if he lost every slam first round it would also not change anything. the truth of it though is that he does make deep runs frequently. that’s why he’s been top 5 for so long, and him being top 5 for so long has already made him a face of men’s tennis regardless of his slam success.
no longer being able to say he’s a choker or he’s a slamless loser or whatever insult in that vein you want is not even remotely relevant when the real reason people should be upset is that he is, once again, a serial domestic abuser.
maybe flavio pulls off a miracle and he wins this one, zverev will continue to be a contender in the next and the next and the next. the issue has never been that he might win one, but that he’s able to compete at all.

what a terrible day for sport
Everyone come collect your sticker
(When half the drivers didn't)
to sum it up:
ferrari didn’t tell either charles or lewis that lewis had a penalty which made charles push unnecessarily hard when he only needed to be within 5 seconds
ferrari was unable to fix the brake problem for charles leading to him having no confidence all weekend and unpredictable brakes
ferrari then double stacked both ferrari cars under the safety car and served lewis’ penalty which led to charles unnecessarily also serving that 5 second penalty, so the team punished charles when he had nothing to do with that penalty
the pitstop was also unnecessary because his tyres were fine and he could’ve maybe led the race or at least finished second
the pitstop gave charles cold tyres that he was unable to warm up and the brakes were still broken which meant he crashed into the wall at the restart of the race
all in all ferrari screwed over their most loyal driver at his home grand prix after he told the world he sold his soul to them for the rest of his life
“i don’t really want to talk because im afraid of being too harsh” oh PLEASE be harsh PLEASE

charles on canal saying it’s not the tarmac, he doesn’t want to say too much bc he will be too hard, the rear brakes are undrivable and didn’t function at all, and it’s his problem since canada. he doesn’t understand why they pitted him behind lewis. and he said it has been ‘hell’ in montreal and in monaco, but he’s extremely frustrated, sad but it’s not anger against himself today
Charles in the ferrari pitwall still clearly pissed by the result
Charles is not responsible for his breaks
Charles is not responsible for what his engineer tells him on the radio
Charles is not responsible for ferrari being fucking incompetent team for the millionth time
If i see anyone blaming or doubting him for what happened today…
HE IS PISSED
