when, how and why did your ranchers obsession start?
mine def started after their reunion in Empires
so this is actually such a long winded story...
I actually started watching Scar again in the middle of my sophmore year at univeristy, I watched about half of his double life and got flung into the fandom. I was a big Scarian girlie for a while and COMBED the fic library.
Then I dipped away for a bit. I went through COD and Batman and Metal Gear Solid, weaving back and forth between those fandoms and coming back for Scarian/life games updates.

I read @birrdies as above so below and I was PINNED DOWN AND DRAGGED THROUGH THE MUD /POS!!!!! when I tell you guys I was waiting for every update. I was like "it's been a month I hope author is okay, it normally takes them about a month to post"
Mr.Sauce knew the plot, he would pause his games while I read so I wasn't distracted. I was truly and utterly in love with the fic. (I still am)
I finished it and desperately needed more. Lucky for me, I found some art by the AMAZING @leafdoodles that lead me to @twodiamondhoes Dirges in the Dark
Dirges was my first real taste of Jimmy and Tango as characters. INSANE first ranchers by the way because that fic is fucking phenominal. Like I still think about it every day and Kit and I are like best friends now. (crazy crazy crazy insane insane I am friends with all my favorite authors now and it's crazy) I finished Dirges on Jan 6th 2025
I read Dirges and got the idea for Dealing Despair. Then I...and this is wild I know but bear with me. I put the tango/Jimmy tag into AO3, no filters. Sorted by kudos. I read every fic, for 69 pages of fics. It took me about two months to read through all that and decide I am forever obsessed with these guys.
On Feb. 1st 2025 I turned to one of my friends and said "hey we should do a creative writing party, I think I wanna write fic again. maybe actually post something" and she was like HELL YEAH! I was gonna do a Scarian fic I had laying around that had an intresting plot, but in writing the first rancher scene it RAN FROM ME. SO Feb 2nd 2025 MoE was born.
and I went, uh oh. This is it's own fic, isnt it? and That's how the Margin of Error Lollipop scene was written. (Thank you valentines candy for the idea). I decided that there weren't enough college au's for Ranchers so I full sent it. At the time they were friends with benefits, hiding it from all their friends, and also Tango rode a motercycle lmao. Somewhere in my editing of chapter one I was like, he's not real enough.
What better way to make a character real, than to apply a part of yourself? so Tango became southern, and the 14k of random scenes I had written in 2 days became a terribly rough outline, and the rest is history. My love letter to writing, the reason I have all my friends today, the thing that keeps my dreams of being an author alive.
Long ah story lmao sorry! I was very late to the rancher game, but I've been lurking for awhile in the fandom. MoE is my first published fic and posting MoE is what finally made be fandom active on tumblr. Some things just fall into place I guess.
