Late to the party, but still here

people carved trenches 3,000 years ago and filled them with chalk in the shape of a horse but what’s interesting is that if you fail to maintain the horse by adding new chalk regularly, it will disappear. for 3,000 years, we’ve been filling in chalk in this horse so it doesn’t disappear.

we’ll never know what the purpose of the horse was originally. we’ll never know if it had ritual or spiritual significance or if it was just art. but we do know that people maintained it then, and, even though the meaning of the horse has long been lost to time, we continue to maintain it now.

the people who made this horse are long dead, but they live through us still, don’t you think?

Raychel and Alivia have a lot in common with  Makana and Alika, our pair of non-releasable Laysan albatross. 👯‍♀️ That's why they decided to get matching tattoos of the magnificent birds they care for!

You may be lucky enough to meet feathered and fabulous Makana when she chooses to hop on her cart and put on a special program at our Kelp Forest exhibit. 

Alika’s more reserved and prefers a quiet life behind the scenes, but rest assured, she’s in the best company with her dedicated care team.

the montreal victoire have a married couple on a line together (captain marie-philip poulin and assistant laura stacey), which led to this iconic line. and yes that’s them wearing shirts of it at their bachelorette party

as for RIVALRIES let’s talk about the OGs, captain of the american team julie chu and captain of the canadian team caroline oullette, who now are married and have children together!! they played against each other in THREE olympics

not to mention current rivals, girlfriends emily clark (assistant captain of the ottawa charge) + jamie bourbonnais (assistant captain of the new york sirens) who met and played together on team canada

the vancouver goldeneyes have TWO couples on it now, captain ashton bell + rookie nina jobst smith and veterans michaela cava + emma greco, who are finally reunited after playing against each other on different teams last year

and that’s just a small percentage of the players who are together!!!
