Idk how I feel about this reveal. I think it was too obvious, and there's definitely more than what they'd have us believe. And idc, I still think I can bestiefy him.

Things I think we should keep in mind about the Flamekeeper (or whoever is behind stuff):

The reason Windworn ruled out MC as the Flamekeeper is that they use advanced magic and a first year wouldn't be able to pull it off. Keep in mind that Windworn believes that MC is potentially the most powerful arcane she's seen, so if she, a magic expert, still doesn't believe MC could pull it off, how could it realistically be Yvain, who is honestly kind of shit at magic? I mean, there's a scene with Cato where y'all can discuss whether it's Yvain, and if you say it's impossible, it gets pointed out that he can't control his magic well enough for it.

Yvain definitely doesn't have the power to pull off the dream stuff, so it calls into question whether Prof. Nightrun is involved, because how else would he have the ability? It sucks because she's my favorite professor, I think :(

Through the Cato scene, we've seen Yvain purchase shady stuff from Brimley, so clearly he's not above doing it himself, so how come he's sending people to do it for him?

If you explore the bombs in the Flamekeeper's lair, MC will realize that the FK was in the cave just before their (MC's) squad. If Yvain is a first year also, what are the odds he beat MC and co. there while doing the midterm AND buying himself enough time to set the bomb? Also, realistically, even if he's shown to be antisocial, he'd have had a squad, since we're told even two people on a squad is risky, so one person alone (especially one person who's not that great at magic) is literally a suicide mission. Not someone who's gonna beat all of the fuller, more experienced squads to the end. So how'd he get away with that without his squad noticing (and assuming they aren't in on it)?

Brimley was killed as he was telling MC where the Flamekeeper said they were from. I think this means that knowing where they're from is a significant clue as to their identity. Meanwhile, I don't think it matters much where Yvain is from, if we even know.

Windworn was quick to shut Yvain up. If that's not sus, I don't know what is.

While I do believe (and have said before) that Yvain thought that MC, as a Dreadbane, would be sympathetic to the cause before realizing that MC was probably brainwashed, remember that the Flamekeeper attacked MC literally on the first day, at which time Yvain not only hadn't met MC, but there was no way of telling where MC's loyalties lied yet. MC could've been (and was universally thought to be) Andros Dreadbane Part 2 at that time. Too early to decide to kill them if you're a devoted believer in Andros Dreadbane's cause.

I'm not actually gonna argue that the guy we've been seeing in robes isn't Yvain, because the sprites do line up perfectly (I was focused on comparing everyone's necklines to the FK's when the whole time it was a mf who literally just covered his with a cravat, smdh). Anyway unless they pull an It Lives Beneath and reuse one sprite for multiple people even if it doesn't fit (whitewashed cultish grandpa wassup), it's been Yvain, but I stand by the previous points.

basically i am playing as a cleric of Mystra whose view on the whole orb situation is that if Mystra has commanded this, it must be because she sincerely believes that it's the only way, but also as the Lady of Mysteries she must also always know that nothing is certain and all possibilities can never be known, so there's always a chance that another method will arise--but being a cleric, and feeling like ending up in this situation does seem a bit like fate, she sees it as her duty to support Gale and guide him if it turns out that this path is indeed the only option. also she really wants to fuck him but she feels like now is proooobably not the time no matter how obviously dtf he clearly also is

so they had the starry sky conversation and she was a little bit cagey-- she didn't take the "well, you gotta do it" path but she didn't actively discourage him, either, which has pretty much been her method from the start... the result being, that when she tried to talk to him about their night together the next morning, he basically says, "yes, it was wonderful, but let's not talk about it, let's just push forward and both be happy we fucked before I died." which i have never seen as a response before because obviously most of the time when you're romancing gale you uhhh pretty actively don't want him to die!!!

so this completely does away with the "i want to live because of you" vibe which I don't love anyway, but ALSO with any of gale's self-consciousness or open uncertainty about whether or not it was just a pity fuck--and, of course, you have no space to say it was just a one-off or to immediately end things, either. both gale and the game completely trust that you love him back, that you both had a beautiful time, and also that now he needs to go die anyway. i am: going insane.

and obviously from a character POV, of course coloured by my own assumption that I'd get the usual post-coital dialogue, i think my Tav is surely feeling a bit of like "well why DON'T you want to live because of me???" paired with her own weird guilt and unwillingness to say that because, well, she's a cleric of mystra. they're both doing what their goddess would want them to do, continue down the path she set out as the best one.

please understand how much i hate myself for being such a basic bitch about it all but it really is the romance with the most weird variants and most potential for just like extremely messy shit

Like for example, there was an ally scene in the main story where they presented Bardric as an ally you could choose if he was at a certain relationship level from the side scenes (iirc it was the trial where upperclassmen could join in), but as I understand it, it was impossible to have that level of friendship with him because there just simply weren’t the necessary amount of side scenes with him available to get him to that level, so would it be a possibility to do that main story ally scene with him in a second slot if you bought sufficient subsequent scenes in your first slot?
