Gale/Durge is such an underrated dynamic but I should have known when it did get attention it would get flattened into âthey both served evil abusive godsâ
I can finally post my entry for the @coloursofthegate volume 2 zine! Check them out to get your free copy <3
This drawing was a blast to work on and I'm honored to have been a part of this project.
When the moment comes, itâs very simple. The Harpers and the Fist upstairs and Jaheira here, who fought so hard for them. June and Shadowheart, whose lives together can now begin. Wyll and Duke Ravengard, and a gaping void of power in Baldurâs Gate.
A principle she has had to explain to many a paladin, but never a wizard: if you donât understand a threat, how do you really know if itâs gone?
There isnât time to reason it out, why Mystra would prefer blood on her hands, knowledge lost. Following the will of the gods is mostly intuition, and Aliafer has always trusted hers.
âYou canât do this,â she says.
âI choose you,â he says, and her stomach lurches: that isnât the choice she meant to pose. But itâs what she said, isnât it. Maybe not what she meant, but what she said. And he chooses her, the way she couldnât quite ever say she chose him.
But thereâs a different god to deal with just now. June strikes the killing blow, but the crumpled form of Ketheric Thorm falls at Aliaferâs feet. He cries out for his god and receives no answer.
+
The gods donât just answer. Thatâs what people who profess no particular faith donât understand. They donât just answer, and the Lady of Mysteries least of all.
When she sees Gale pacing in the corner of Moonrise, apart from the exhausted celebrations, she readies herself for a torrent of guilt. But heâs too much like her: on to the next thing, his mind consumed already by the sight of that crownâthe promise, as he clutches her shoulder, caresses the back of her neck with his thumb as he speaks, that they havenât ruined everything.
And in the shine in his eyes, Aliafer understands. There was always another way. Mystra must have known of this, must have feared the death gods and the Elder Brain. Must have known there was indeed only one person who could defeat it: Gale, with his lifetime of study of Netherese magic, with his prodigious talent and skill.
Intuition. Is it as Gale says, her anger and envy, keeping him from this second Netherese artefact? Forcing him to choose death over the temptation of power?
Or does she fear what will become of him if he tempts fate a second time? Was his death to be salvation from destruction?
There are things that can destroy a mortal soul, rend it in too many pieces for a god to collect and bring to their afterlife. Becoming a mindflayer, of course, is one such thing.
Do you understand, she wants to say, testing her thumb against the points of the star of Mystra in her pocket, the chain of her holy symbol snapped during the fight, that you cannot choose me without choosing her, too?
Does he understand that for her, Mystra is not a lover, not a mentor, not even a muse? She is the ever-present sensation of the Weave; she is the promise of mysteries to uncover; she is the feeling of knowledge settling itself into understanding after hard work and study. All the things that wizards know and seek to master, she feels, she worships. That is what they share, not the mere name of a goddess, not paired holy symbols that they carry.
Does he understand?
âThere is another way, a better way, for both of us,â he says, and she has to believe that he does.
âI think that sounds like an excellent idea,â she says.

Gale - The Evening Star
Well. I am rather pleased with him. Hope you'll like him as well, folks đŠś
Gale as the Evening Start from Alphonse Mucha â¨
Yes I know, I know, Mystryl is technically dead at this time, but she was still (as Mystra is now) the embodiment of the Weave, so I put her old symbol instead of the newest Mystra one, as a marker of Gale's love for magic, rather than Mystra herself. And I've swapped the original design from Mucha to have a good view of the orb.
Others in the series can be found here :
Astarion as 'The North Star' Shadowheart as 'The Moon' Wyll as 'The Morningstar' Lae'zel as 'The Comet'
Next (and last, for now), Karlach â¤ď¸âđĽ No idea when I'll get to her though ^^
đłď¸âđFree General Releaseđłď¸âđ
If you missed out on pre-orders, you can now enjoy Colours of the Gate Vol 2 for free on itchi.io!
You can download PDFs of the zine and add-ons, or view them online through the heyzine links. We encourage donations, but they're not required.

Itâs out!! I contributed a playable two-person game about Isobel and Aylin, Iâd love to hear if anyone tries it â¤ď¸
my visionâwhat finally brings dame aylin and shadowheart together in something resembling camaraderie is their shared enthusiasm for the baldurian tourney circuit
sir whoever unhorses sir whatsit in the meleĂŠ and they're both on their feet screaming in the stands. shadowheart casts dancing lights. aylin whaps the people on both sides of her with her wings. &c
He'd wear it actually

Jaheira, the High-Harper đ¸

The first part is finished: The path guided by Moonmaiden
Subscribe to not miss the second part and the full artwork đ
Had the pleasure of being part of the baldur's gate floral zine and drawing shadowheart!
GTA Minthara đ¸ I had A LOT of requests to draw Minthara and I'm gladly obeyed. I love this woman so much. It was a very fun trend to draw and I hope I'm not too late with the second piece (I'm so slow artist, sorry)

Ship Tournament, Round 1 â Match 23 / 30
Jaheira/Nine-Fingers
"These two so obviously have some history. I'm not saying it's romantic or sexual history, but it's history, and that invites thought. There's some tension between them, that could be interesting in a romance."
"Jaheira calls her 'Astele'. Nine-Fingers left an offering for her."
vs. Gale/Minthara
"Theyâd challenge each other in places where they actually need it. Gale can get so wrapped up in guilt and grand gestures and magical destiny that he forgets heâs allowed to just live. Minthara would have absolutely no patience for him dressing self-destruction up as nobility. Sheâd call it wasteful, which is maybe the least comforting possible wording, but also exactly the kind of thing that would cut through his spiral. And Gale would push Minthara too, because heâs genuinely curious about people and he loves conversation and he can be very emotionally brave once he stops trying to turn everything into a speech. Heâd ask questions she isnât used to being asked by someone who isnât trying to control her. I think sheâd hate how much she likes having someone intelligent look at her and want to understand the person under the armour."
Which ship do you prefer?
Jaheira/Nine-Fingers
Gale/Minthara
Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you
