i think it’s cute that jaime and cersei used to switch clothes so that they can live each other’s lives. sorry ur dad sucks, guys. you could’ve been the most iconic siblings at the function, instead ur both just insane.

it’s also sad that cersei saw the potential in herself to be someone stronger than her father but she couldn’t achieve those dreams because of her gender. she probably beat up jaime’s training partners very good.

tyrion is very confused. maybe he never figured out that jaime was pretending to be cersei and still hopes that his sister loves him deep down to some extent

other fantasy series will relay the events and the world through their characters, sure, but I never realized just how censored they feel in comparison to asoiaf. things happen, characters feel a certain kind of way about them and relay that to me-the-reader. then they do things, plot happens, etc. sometimes it's quite compelling, even! but in asoiaf, I-the-reader am a brain parasite. the characters think thoughts they would never tell me. I see their worst impulses, their immediate instincts, their intrusive thoughts. a lot of it is unsavory, but it's done in such a way that it all feels deeply real and true to life.

In the fourth book Cersei is basically de facto the king. She is largely a paranoid incompetent fascist because she is her father’s son and she’s really really scared all the time. Taena Merryweather is a woman at court with her husband who wants to be like an important figure in the Cersei administration, but Taena ends up falling into the role of Cersei’s evil advisor/yes-man like she’s in her ear being like yes queen the Tyrells ARE all out to get you definitely act accordinglyyyy.

Cersei trusts her more than anyone. They sleep in the same bed and Cersei tells Taena her deepest darkest secret that is the foundation of her insane worldview that she’s never told anyone in the whole world, the prophecy she is terrified will come to fruition. They also have sex but as an unrepentant fascist, 20 year victim of marital rape, and Lannister worldview-haver, Cersei can really only conceive of power and intimacy through gendered sexual violence so she spends the entire time basically trying to be her rapist husband. It gets weird.

To be clear, nobody in-world thinks Patchface was resurrected by the Drowned God. That's a fan theory only, the Drowned God is never mentioned in any chapter where Patchface appears or is referenced. Hell, we don't know that it's a true theory, there could be some complete other reason for Patchface's return from the dead and prophetic abilities. (Prophetic abilities that nobody in-world realizes are prophecies, or true ones for that matter!) But certainly nobody on Dragonstone ever looks at Patchface and thinks "a symbol of the power of the Drowned God, that totally real and true god that those viking-pirates who live on the opposite side of this continent believe in!"

Secondly, Melisandre doesn't believe that other gods are fake, and thus non-existent and powerless. She does believe that R'hllor is the only true god worthy of worship, but she also believes in the Great Other, the god of evil and death, and that all other gods in the world are actually demons of the Great Other. R'hlorrism isn't monotheistic like Christianity, it's dualistic and manichean like Zoroastrianism and certain sects of Christianity like Catharism. Melisandre doesn't think that the Drowned God isn't real, she just believes that he's actually a demon and his followers are demon-worshippers who are fooling themselves and blind to the truth.
