here is a collection of smb works that live rent free in my brain. mostly about mario dealing with the aftermath of The Horrors (tm).
the series yellow, purple, red, green by itjustbe_sydney on ao3 is pretty good. wario and waluigi are asked to act as mentors for the mario bros. as they navigate through the strange new world that is the mushroom kingdom.
anything from @peaches2217 but i really like Useless (short fic about Mario dealing with the stress he puts himself under + PTSD from adventures) and everything with Untarnished (really tasty hurt/comfort about peach getting rescued after 3 months in captivity and dealing with the aftermath, good soup)
Coming Down by MrSpockify . hurt/comfort post-canon movieverse with the bros dealing with the newfound trauma and anxieties, unhealthy coping mechanisms and all .
@rarsneezes has a couple of really good ones dealing with the aftermath of spm and mario dealing with the trauma of having his loved ones brainwashed/possessed .
Broken Mug by ohmaerieme, another short hurt/comfort fic about Luigi and Mario talking about the events of spm with luigi dealing with his missing memories
for a longer fic, Cravings by Krackaroo21, about mario trying to keep up with the image of "super mario" and how it affects his loved ones
