I really hate it when people say “holy mischaracterization!!!” And it’s literally just someone expanding on the personality of an already 1 dimensional character
Mischaracterizing would be to misinterpret the personality of a character, how on earth do you misinterpret something that isn’t even there to begin with!!!
I see this a lot with Shrimpo from dandy’s world. Sure, you could say his whole personality is just being a bully. But wouldn’t it be fun to add a little more to that? Why do ya gotta police everything!!
TLDR: my point is that mischaracterization is annoying, but expanding on a characters already flat personality is NOT mischaracterization and is actually pretty fun to do!!!!
I see loads of Mario being protective of the Toads and the others, but what about the other way around? Ever thought of that dynamic?
I can see it. Maybe a little less so, but i can imagine Mario down on his luck being all “i can push through it no problem!”

Mario being protective of the Toads
sure, he doesn’t like mushrooms, but these lil creatures are adorable and he enjoys them, hell, one of them (Toad) is his best friend, so his protective nature is just going brrrrrr
he’s protective of both Luigi and Peach, but also of the toad folks, and he’d put his life on the line for them all
(I also have a head canon that he uses a bit of a softer voice towards Luigi specifically because i find that adorable)
