I haven’t pissed people off lately by reminding them that ALL types of physical punishment of kids has been proven beyond ANY reasonable doubt to have only negative long term outcomes.

So let me scream it from the hilltops:

Stop hitting kids. End of sentence.

For example, being exposed to corporal punishment as a kid makes it more likely for a person to commit domestic violence against a partner. In places where corporal punishment is normal, people are more likely to think that rape and intimate partner violence are normal. Kids who are spanked are more likely to be violent with and to bully other kids.

Spanking is literally teaching a kid that violence is okay and normal and it affects the whole society.

She lives alone with her dog Ash. And as one does when just living with a pet, she has a lot of made-up nonsense she just says to him, including a lot of made-up vaguely German sounding words.

And the German isn't completely random. Some of it is hold-over actual German from when she (temporarily) lived in Switzerland 32 years ago.

She told me, "Most days I'll say to Ash, 'Was ist heute? (What is today?) Heute ist (Today is)'" followed by the day of the week. She also said she was having the damnedest time remembering the German word for 'Thursday.'

Like she could get through "Heute ist Sonntag," "Heute ist Montag," "Heute ist Dienstag"... and blank out at Thursday. Until finally she decided, screw it, googling it! (Thursday is Donnerstag, btw.)

"Except," she told me, "I googled it, and it went Sonntag, Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch, and I went 'Mittwoch? What the hell is Mittwoch?'"

Mittwoch is in fact Wednesday. But that's not the day of the week my mom was tripping on. She knew (thought she knew) Wednesday. So my mom was left going "Okay then what the hell have I been saying?" and she said, "Chrissy I've been saying Sonntag, Montag, Dienstag, Geburtstag. I've been saying Heute ist Geburstag to Ash every Wednesday."

Geburtstag is in fact the German word for Birthday.

It's about desexualizing breasts and "female presenting nipples" and not being criminalized for our bodies if we want to go topless because it's a million damn degrees out. This was a popular growing movement that was still widely known a decade ago!

Started stitching the Milky Way in. Slowly making progress on it as I am hiding the travelling thread so the back will look nice.

Progress on the constellation quilt has come along quite a lot now. Finished the binding on the quilt over the weekend. I prefer to machine stitch the binding to the front then hand stitch the back side. It gives such a nice finish to the quilt. Took the time to measure it also and it ended up being 72" by 72" (183cm by 183cm).

Behold the stars of the constellations of the northern sky! I love how this quilt has turned out. It was a lot of fun to work on and the effect is so cool in person. Overall I would estimate it took about 90-100 hours to complete. Give or take 10 hours if you want to count the time I spent custom dying the fabric.

I made sure to get a nice photo of it in daylight. For once I also remembered to get a quilt label on it. The back really shows the difference in readability of the quilting on the ice dyed fabric compared to the solid front. Thank you everyone that has followed this. I am glad you all found joy in it.

Pilots and other transportation workers have absurd hours of service requirements that start your rest period as “the moment you shut the vehicle down” and can be as short as 9 hours in some cases.

Railroad workers have to be available on-call 6 days a week and be ready within two hours notice. They don’t get sick time.

Retail workers have to keep a veneer of politeness against any and all abuse or they can be fired.

Truck drivers get paid by mileage and rarely see pay for shipper or receiver delays.
