you're a vaelwarden, a protector of the people and spirits of orr. all the good your vaelwarden does, all the happy things that happen to them are going to be underpinned by these bittersweet, tragic feelings of "but in the end it was all for nothing". and maybe some people dont like that, but I think getting to see orr have it's fleeting time on tyria is like. awesome. maybe the vaelwarden will love orr and put their entire soul into caring for it all. and one day it'll all come crashing down and sink to the bottom of the ocean.

I could go on about how that the temporary nature of all that good ultimately not meaning much is very. life. that's life. and it still matters even if it all vanished. it matters because it vanished. but then its also what happens in gw2 that gives it so much meaning to me.

sure, everything your vaelwarden achieves is temporary, maybe nothing much in the grand scheme of things. but like 1300+ years into the future after everything you worked for was destroyed, someone who has never known you and your story will come along and be so dedicated to reviving the land that you loved and making it something new and cared for once again. some guy, part of a race you could have never conceived of, will rally the collective effort of the world for the sake of removing the rot and filth from this ruin that was so long forgotten. that legacy will encourage a whole new generation of adventurous spirits to flock to this place because they see hope and potential in what it could become with some care. they carry on your work in a new way.

the will of determined people echoing throughout the centuries. an unseen line between then and now.

I love Orr and itll be so fun to explore how the lore we have ties into the world. It was really smart of them to make a prequel so they can continue to make content for gw2 without disrupting the new addition. Plus since Orr sinks, they really do have a playground to do whatever they like and have it all be erased when it disappears, meaning no lore impact on previously made content.

Guild Wars 1 is still running, looked after and updated 21 years on from its first launch. Compared to that, Guild Wars 2 is a teenager at best. Arenanet have already proven that they will keep things alive and running by the fact Guild Wars 1 exists (and my god recently just got a huge uplift and resurgence?) and there are still people playing it who have not once touched Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 3 will be a modern game - and by that I want to emphasise it will be in a modern ENGINE. For those of us who have been playing Guild Wars 2 for close to or over a decade are acutely aware that the engine Guild Wars 2 runs on is a beast made up of trying to drag pieces of the Guild Wars 1 engine and melding it with a frankenstein of new technology. There have been several stretches of Guild Wars 2's history where a minor update has resulted in a mountain of unexpected issues (which have always been resolved timely). In comparison - a video game built in the Unreal 5 Engine will be a total breeze to add to and make releases for and will likely take significantly less attention to keep running than Guild Wars 2.

The decision to make a prequel gives them direct room to continue developing story and expansions for Guild Wars 2. If it had been a sequel, they would struggle to implement new story into Guild Wars 2 while also balancing the "far future" of a sequel. The decision to specifically chose a prequel for the setting of this game, particularly one so far in the future and in a location that so specifically has an end date says to me that the Anet team have considered very carefully how to make another game that doesn't invalidate the worlds they've already made and the stories they still yet have to tell.

I like them because they're evil and terrible, and that makes them really fascinating to play within the confines of. Kuda isn't in a vacuum; she's her father's daughter. Kudu was also horrible. We've seen first hand what they've done and are capable of, and that your average asura - even the laymen like the ones around the Funhouse and in various other places in Metrica - loathe them. They are canonically backed by the Arcane Council, which is fundamentally incredibly corrupt.
