Verified: Microsoft 365 gets massive 45% price hike — and it's all to do with AI tools (Tom's Guide - January 17, 2025)
oopsie i tripped and spilled my link to archive dot org's downloadable copy of Microsoft office suite for 2007, which features no AI tools and is a powerful word processor that still holds up just fine on windows 10!
I don’t have a uterus, so when I have sex, “Will this get me pregnant?” is never part of the equation. I am thereby privileged.
Pregnant people are subjected to a high degree of social judgement as well as scrutiny and control from the government and the medical establishment. It’s easy for a pregnant person’s partner to exploit them using their low-control status.
Going from not-pregnant to pregnant is a major step down in social autonomy. Pregnancy can also cause temporary or permanent physical disabilities.
Because I have no uterus, I can be certain I will never become pregnant. Pregnancy cannot befall me by accident, my intimate partner cannot wait for me to get pregnant to trap me, a rapist cannot make me pregnant to force me off my medications.
the ability to get pregnant puts an individual in a marginalized class. not all women can get pregnant, and not all who can get pregnant are women, so the name of this class is not “women.” pwcgp oppression is not exactly “misogyny,” but it very often presents in tandem with misogyny. therefore pregnant person rights are a feminist issue.
same animal btw

What do you guys think of cellular agriculture/lab grown meat?
Inherently flawed imho. Like, obviously the current dominant methods, of grain-fed cows confined in feedlots or cutting down rainforests for grazing, are unsustainable and undesirable. That being said, lab grown meat has a huuuuge waste stream. Keeping cell cultures pure and sterile necessitates a lot of disposable pipette tips, petri dishes, plastic bags etc etc etc, not to mention antibiotics used in culture mediums.
Also like…what do they feed the cell culture? You can give cows minimally-processed grains and soybeans because they have a complex digestive tract to grind up, dissolve, purify and extract nutrients for themselves, and then a circulatory system to send those nutrients to every muscle cell more-or-less perfectly. If you’re growing only muscle cells, those cells still need all the same nutrients, only now you need to do all the work of the digestive tract and circulatory system. You’re creating extra work, with extra waste, that’s still gonna be dependent on cheap grains+soybeans. It’s the same problems I have with “vertical farms” growing lettuce in artificial lights and irrigation.
Ideally, you appreciate the cow not as a “protein producing unit” that can be replaced by muscle cells in a petri dish, but as a whole animal. Its hoofprints in the soil help improve the way water flows over the landscape (imprinting), its grazing improves nutrient cycling in pastures and grasslands, its manure provides fertility to gardens or is burned as fuel where trees need to be conserved. If you’re smart about designing systems, the natural behaviors and instincts of cows (or any grazing animal–ideally buffalo in “North America”) can become beneficial and act to improve the world around them.
When a cow is treated this way, it needs minimal labor and provides many benefits–food, leather, ecosystem stability, fertilizer, fuel, etc. Compare this to a petri dish full of muscle cells, which needs a lot of labor and provides only one benefit, food, while also producing many waste products that have no use.
solid points
I had a rant about that here where my complaint was primarily from an indigenous pov rather than just ag engineering, but in the grand scheme of things imo a giant misdirection of funds. Its absolutely amazing science and from that persepective worth all the attention, bc the medical field or folks with allergies/certain diseases could certainly benefit from it but yeah, that money would do so much more good in rural areas.
“For cultured meat to move the needle on climate, a sequence of as-yet-unforeseen breakthroughs will still be necessary. We’ll need to train cells to behave in ways that no cells have behaved before. We’ll need to engineer bioreactors that defy widely accepted principles of chemistry and physics. We’ll need to build an entirely new nutrient supply chain using sustainable agricultural practices, inventing forms of bulk amino acid production that are cheap, precise, and safe. Investors will need to care less about money. Germs will have to more or less behave. It will be work worthy of many Nobel prizes—certainly for science, possibly for peace. And this expensive, fragile, infinitely complex puzzle will need to come together in the next 10 years.”
Headlines have overshadowed inconvenient truths about biology and cost. Now, new research suggests the industry may be on a crash course wit

reblog that post about Black people, whitey
i mean "posts about Black people" in a broad sense, that can mean anything from struggles to Black joy, and when you see the notes, most of the time it’s double digits, three if I'm being generous.
start being comfortable posting Black people's words in your blogs, the same way you'll reblog posts about transness, gayness, disability, because these specific topics can affect you
start actually giving a fuck about Black folks and reblogging our words is the barest minimum
