Mortal Kombat Stuff

(Firstly, i wanna say thank you to everyone who stuck around my blog. You guys are the best, and I’m happy to be back 💜)

Now, I have yet to play the game myself/watch any PVPs, so I can’t do a detailed review about the fighting mechanics, but I have watched the story mode. Maybe in the future, I will do a short review focusing on the fighting mechanics, but today I will be focusing on the story mostly.

I really don’t know how I feel about how this whole story reboot. I guess i’ll go down the list briefly about little things i did and didn’t like.

For Sindel, I prefer good sindel over evil sindel. As much as evil Sindel grew on me, I do think good Sindel makes more sense for her character. Also, one thing I didn’t like about Evil Sindel was that she was more Shao Kahn’s partner than her own villain. Like she came as a package with Shao Kahn, and while everyone loves a good villain couple, I think Sindel is formidable on her own and deserves to be seen as such. I mean I know she already is seeing as they fought to revive her in MK11, but I think they should have separated her more from Shao Kahn. I did not like how they killed off good Sindel, I already knew it was gonna happen early on in the story mode. Let Jerrod, Sindel and her family be happy lmao. I was enjoying fair queen Sindel.

I have always had respect for Baraka as a character personally. Like he always, in any timeline at any time, stands up for his people and ain’t afraid of shit. I like how they wrote him as both a fierce, formidable fighter and an intelligent, resourceful ally. I believe this is the best characterization for Baraka I’ve seen so far.

I feel like they also did good with Reptile. I mean, the whole “not knowing his family’s been dead for several weeks while doing shang tsung’s bidding” thing is kinda crazy, you’d think he’d ask to see them to confirm they’re still alive or something. But he DID make up for it. I do like that they gave him the ability to shapeshift, as well as invisibility. I think they fit well for his character. (ALSO WTF ACTUALLY NOBODY TOLD ME HUMAN REPTILE IS HOT!! WTF!!!)

The concept of tarkat, I genuinely don’t know how to feel about it. I don’t think I like it— the concept of making an entire race a deadly disease. It makes those parts of Mileena and Baraka’s characters seem like a negative trait, when it is in fact part of their charm for the fanbase. if someone knows what the motivation behind that writing decision is please lmk because i googled and can’t find a solid reason.

For Mileena and Kitana, I sorta like what they did. It shows that Liu Kang mustve felt some empathy for Mileena despite what she did to him and Kitana in the past. Or maybe he wanted to alleviate Kitana of the broken sibling relationship, as he knew it frustrating her deeply. Or maybe both. It’s interesting that Mileena is the heir to the throne though. My guess is that choice is to please the fans who wanted to see Mileena win in Mk10. Also idk if i like ponytail Mileena, I miss her iconic bob. I do like the Mileena x Tanya moments though! Very cute. I like the idea of their love persisting throughout the timelines.

For Raiden and Kung Lao, I feel that Raiden has become the replacement for Liu Kang in this new timeline. (He even seems to have the new Kitana as a love interest). He is starkly different from the past Raiden, embodying all of his wisdom, fighting skill and patience, while harboring none of his rage. He seems to be perfect protagonist material, which I guess god Liu Kang wanted. I enjoyed Kung Lao, as I always do. He is always an entertaining, witty character. Though i feel even happier that his heroism was emphasized in the story, rather than him being seen as a lesser combatant.

I think this new Johnny is pretty similar to the old one. I like his relationship with Kenshi. The enemies to rivals to lovers/friends trope is one of my favorites. I can see them in either a romantic or platonic context (trust i will be writing more about them in another post). You can feel just how much Johnny has grown to care genuinely about Kenshi.

Where are my beloved Jade, Sonya, and Jax?? Kotal Kahn??? I am praying that they will be released later as DLCs, idk. To me they are primary figures in the story. Also the MK10 teens, Cassie, Jacqui, Takeda and Kung Jin? I know they can’t include too many people in the main roster initially, but like Sonya, Jax and Jade should’ve been in there. Idk i hope they have something planned that makes up for their absence. Im not mad at the main roster they have, but im just gonna say, I do not like Nitara’s voice. It just sounds off, not even fitting for her character. Also rip Kabal and D’vorah. Also I literally never thought we’d see Ashrah again lmao, she was integrated into the story nicely. I like that smoke’s here too. ALSO SHEEVA MY BELOVED?? WHERE ART THOU

Their decision to make Kuai Liang scorpion is “meh” to me. Don’t get me wrong, he is really cool as scorpion and its interesting to see Bi-Han as sub zero (showing how ruthless and cold Bi-Han was before he became noob saibot in the previous timeline), but turning Hanzo Hasashi into a young protégé of the new Shirai Ryu is a decision I’m not sure I like yet. Maybe my opinion will change later on, idk, but for now, i’d say im not really a fan of that. Kinda just erases who Hanzo was as a character (ik the hanzo we known is technically still alive, kinda, but my point still stands).

That brings me to my next point— making the different tower endings from mk11 all canon was a bold, and honestly creative move. However, i worry about the story becoming convoluted. There are too many sindels, too many liu kangs, too many hanzos— you get the gist. I’m hoping that they will release a second story mode like they did with mk11. They hinted at it with Havik at the end there.

Im hoping it will bring everything together for a more clear cut story in the future. Right now things are just like so messy. I also think they’re playing around with the whole divinity thing way too much; remember, liu kang is not a god, he is just a guy whose really good at martial arts. The same goes for the other time keepers from the tower endings. I just feel like it’s getting old and they need to do something new, while also cleaning up the story line a bit so there isn’t fifteen versions of one character. It just makes the character’s personalities lose meaning a bit to me.

Erron Black never thought he would have a moment like this. From the day he was born, he had to fight against this cruel world. His family abused him mercilessly, and any friends he thought he’d made swiftly betrayed him. Over the course of his long life, he always had to struggle to survive, and has had many days that he thought were going to be his last. He didn’t even know he could feel joy like this. He shakily exhaled, letting the tears flow down his face as he looked down at his newborn child in his arms.

“Hey there, little fella.” Erron’s voice cracked up slightly. The baby grasped his finger, crying out. Erron looked up at you, smiling warmly. “You don’t know just how happy I feel right now, darlin’. I think you’ve just about made me the happiest man in all the realms”. He leaned forward, kissing you gently on the forehead.

“I love you so much.” He said as you smiled back.

“I love you too.” You replied.

- I feel that Erron and Kung Lao give eachother things that they don’t really get from their other friends. Kung Lao loves Liu Kang like a brother, but Liu Kang can be very uptight sometimes. Kung Lao understands it’s partially because Liu Kang’s the Chosen One with a reputation to uphold and expectations to meet, but it makes Kung Lao feel like he can’t have fun with his friend sometimes. Erron is a lot less strict in that he loves a good thrill, so having a friend that he can get drunk with and goof off with makes Kung Lao feel less alone in that aspect. For Erron, he’s never really had “friends”. The closest thing to that used to be Kano and Kabal, but they were more like business partners. Being friends with Kung Lao has given Erron the chance to share his deepest thoughts and happiest moments with someone, and its just something Erron doesn’t experience often at all. He didn’t even know he could until now. It makes Erron soften up a bit, giving him the potential to open to others again, in time.

- Much like Liu Kang, Erron is quick to back up Kung Lao whenever someone berates him. Erron has a slicer tongue when it comes to clapping back on an insult, so he always makes sure whoever’s talking shit about Kung Lao shuts their mouth.

- I can see them being foodie friends who like to travel to different restaurants/eating establishments across Earthrealm together in their freetime. Both Kung Lao and Erron know a bundle of great spots to eat in Earthrealm, so they take turns showing eachother their favorite restaurants whenever they feel like going out for a bite to eat.

Hanzo: After you told Hanzo about his fate in the battle against Kronika, he sat silently for a few moments with a solemn expression. “I see.” He finally spoke, “If I am fated to die for the future of this world, then I will accept that fate. My friends and the Shirai Ryu are the main reason I was given a new life, I refuse to abandon them. Besides, to know my past self will see the error of his ways as I once did… it reassures me that the future of this world will be bright.”

Cassie: “So, let me get this straight. My mom dies, then my dad’s past self and a bunch of other past fighters come back from ANOTHER TIMELINE, then the GODDESS OF TIME herself basically threatens to revive Shinnok and Liu Kang becomes the new god?” Cassie says, in shock. She sits herself down, running a hand through her hair. “That’s… alot to take in.” Cassie always knew that her and her mother’s jobs were dangerous work, the kind of work where you could lose your life any day. She just… never really saw it actually happening. Despite your warning, Cassie resolving to change the future, aiming to defeat Kronika without losing anyone. She defeated Kronika’s brother, there’s no reason to believe she can’t defeat Kronika herself, right?

Kotal Kahn: “I am an emperor, my body and soul belong to my people. If I must lay down my life to defend them, so be it. I have done so countless other times in the past.” Kotal said. “I have faith we will surpass this dark prophecy. We have rid ourselves of Shao Kahn once, and we will do so again. Then, we will see Kronika dethroned once and for all. This, I promise.” Kotal Kahn cared not for prophecies and tellings of the future, for he was determined to challenge destiny.

Liu Kang: “Me? A god?” Liu Kang says in shock. “They had always told me I’m the chosen one, yet it seems the meaning of that title is always broadening. If I am to defeat Kronika and Shang Tsung, I will gladly do so. Anything to protect our world from an era of darkness.” Liu Kang has prepared his whole life to defeat evil, and if this is what must be done to fufil that role, he will do so with fiery determination .

Kung Lao: Kung Lao couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “Of course Liu Kang becomes the god.” He said. Despite hearing about the horrors the future holds, Kung Lao was oddly calm. “I would’ve liked to be a god myself, but if Liu Kang is the one to lead us into victory, I have no doubts in him.” Despite their differences, Kung Lao and Liu Kang are brothers through thick and thin. The faith and trust between them is near unbreakable.

Currently Reading: If we’re counting webtoons/comics, I read a LOT of webtoons, but to name a few— The Remarried Empress, Suitor Armor, and Nevermore (the new one by Kat and Kit). If we’re not including webtoons, no new books at the moment, but I am looking for a good one.

Sweet, Savory, Or Spicy: Savory. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth and I hate spicy food. When I eat sweets, I usually eat orange flavored candy. Orange flavored sweets are hands down my favorite, grape flavor stans do not interact. Im joking lol….. mostly

Currently Working On: Improving my artwork and trying to get back into the writing groove.

- Both of them view honesty and loyalty as extremely important in terms of their morals. Betrayal and deception heavily disgusts and angers both of them (ie. D’Vorah betraying Kotal and Sindel betraying Sheeva.)

- While they both have strong codes of honor, neither of them are afraid to get their hands dirty. Though they are both leaders with countless soldiers at their behest, more often then not they are on the battlefield right alongside their soldiers, leading the effort with ruthless bloodshed.

- They are both like mentors to Kitana, especially in her new role as Kahn. I could definitely see them discussing mentorship strategies as they help Kitana guide Outworld to a brighter future.

- Their fighting styles are quite similar in that they focus on brute force, which would probably make it a lot easier for them to coordinate with eachother in kombat. I could see them training together, and also beating up enemies together with ease.

- While both of them are strong kombat veterans feared throughout both Earthrealm and Outworld for their power, behind their battle-hardened personalities is a warm heart. They both truly care for their people and want only the best for Outworld.
