Ok so as a Gardner from Europe I gotta tell u that every aple has its own name cause otherwise we couldn't propagate it for farming and sales. u need to know because of pollination cause specific varieties need specific other varieties to get fruits. And we also have old varieties that get forgotten and loads of people try to get them and loads of producers have them back in their programms. Depending were you live you have other 'special' varieties but you can just buy a 'green delicious' in a random gardencenter in europe. So as long as you don't get a tree from a seed it'll always have a name and be a certain variety. It's not just aples either, all fruits have a lil name (cherries, pears, plums, strawberries, blueberries etc.) :)
