hey, for no reason, could you say why you feel itws is relevant to today's publishing climate? and could you use, oh, i don't know, 250-500 words to do it? thanks xx
here's how brainstorming is going so far
(I mention Stephen Graham Jones bc I'm submitting to a contest with Simon & Schuster.)
(Which is due in 3 days FUCK)
oh the word count on my novel is almost 10k over the limit for submission.
one of the reasons fletcher avoids going out in public is bc they really want to keep a low profile and if there's someone being a blatant asshole, fletcher is going to get into it with them.
this post was prompted by going to an art market earlier today where someone brought a dog in a service vest that was obviously not a trained service animal. it was being noisy and jumping up on people (presumably it's owner but regardless). and that shit pisses me off because it makes it harder on people who have real service animals who are now treated with suspicion because too many people buy a vest online and let their animal run up and bark at people and shit. just leave your fucking dog at home.
and I wanted to go up to them and be like, look that's clearly not a service animal, so take it out of here. but I'm not going to do that. it's not my event so I don't really have any authority, so it'd just be potentially starting a confrontation.
but then bc I am oc pilled, I was like, you know who would say something? Fletcher.
and I had actually thought recently about the ol' "fletcher would benefit from having a dog" thing, and how fletcher gets anxious going into crowded places, even grocery stores. they would probably be a good match for a ptsd service dog, but I can imagine someone suggesting that and them being like, "Yeah, but as soon as someone confronts me about it, or tries to touch the dog, or asks why I need it, we're going to have Bigger Issues."

patches for fletcher:
(also I should specify the dog was not jumping up in an alert way, it was barking and whining loudly and jumping up for pets)

touch-starvation needs to be written with emphasis on the starving part. you are hungry to be touched. so hungry that even the very taste of it makes you nauseous. it has been long since anything has ever touched you, ever fed you - that your body has grown more used to that gnawing emptiness more than anything else. it's better for you to be held, to eat but it makes you sick to try. you know
