Whumper held Whumpee captive for years (possibly even from childhood?), and was always cruel *except* on Whumpee’s birthday and whichever holidays Whumpee celebrated. On those days Whumper never got angry about anything, always doted on Whumpee, giving them anything they asked for, short of freedom of course.
Now, with Caretaker, every day is like that, being treated kindly/as if they’re something special. Which is wrong, because it was always the *days* that were special, special enough to overcome even Whumpee’s innate worthlessness.
Whumpee finds themselves feeling the most miserable on their birthday/any holiday they celebrate, because everything is so backwards and *wrong* now, and Caretaker just doesn’t get it. It’s not Whumpee’s fault that Caretaker is doing it wrong. They’ve tried to explain it so many times, but Caretaker just looks at them with a sad expression, as if Whumpee is the one who’s confused.
But they’re not. They know exactly how things are meant to be.
If only Whumper were there to take care of them properly.
