non exhaustive list of fandom/media misogyny
only ever liking male relationships and calling a relationship with a women in it 'het slop'
'she's just not that interesting compared to [insert male character]'
only talking about female characters in a shipping context
treating a female character as an accessory or self-insert next to the male character
calling a female character toxic or bitchy for the same things that a male character gets coddled for
'if you want more fic/art/content about female characters/wlw ships make it yourself'
yuri but it's only genderbent yaoi
saying a female character 'deserves better' and then sidelining her completely
claiming that favouring yaoi is 'escaping misogyny'
a complex female character being used in fics solely as a yaoi cheerleader
female character's mental health gets ignored in favour of a male character's development
female character being reduced to a mom or sister character when they aren't related to x character at all
'her character was so underdeveloped' but then their fav is a man with much less screentime
'fandom isn't activism'
the tag about a female character being 80% shipping content
complex female character being called bitchy while an equally complex male character is adored and coddled
killing a female character off in fic
not listening when women in fandom point out something about the source material being sexist
calling a female character overrated
male character's sexism being excused because 'he didn't know any better/he's mentally ill/he didn't mean it in that way'
giving a male character/mlm ship the same traits that an existing female character already has; while not engaging with that character at all
female character in a straight ship being written ooc because the author only wrote the fic because of the male character
'mean lesbian' trope
'stop dictating how people should play with characters'
'it's not that deep'
canon sapphic ship has about 10% of the fic compared to the non-canon yaoi ship
calling women in fandom hysterical for being upset at how the source material treated a female character

Wait i can learn from my mistakes? Ohhhhh ok i was just using them to torment myself
also while i'm at it, agression from men and women in the pitt is also displayed in such different ways. (thank you @shrinkthisviolet for chatting about this w me <3)
men are often agressive on the pitt, but their reasons are always seen as valid; either they don't get any proper consequences, or are proven right. langdon berates santos but doesn't get anything besides a warning in season on. then, he gets angry and defensive when santos tells him he didn't face any proper consequences. robby's mental health is used as the primary reason why he's agressive towards samira, baran, dana and more; and his anger is either proven as reasonable and there is barely anything done except a slap on the wrist. his behavior has pushed samira out and has hurt many, but none of it gets seen as a concern, when it's (especially in samira's case) enough to file an employee incident report and is a huge liability.
with patients, we see doug driscoll assault dana but not get reported, how it's just too much paperwork. we see kylie's dad having every sign of abuse, yelling at the people around him and his girlfriend, but eventually being proven right in his anger because he didn't do it. we have david, who gets maximum sympathy even though he has a list of girls he wants to literally murder. and everyone who speaks against him is seen as though they want to 'ruin his life'.
women are frequently agressive or angry in the pitt. with the staff we see dana lashing out in several moments, but very often being proven wrong. she's the one who makes robby upset or who mistakenly offends him for not knowing about his mom, she is the weird one for having a traumatic experience and carrying versed as a precaution. mckay gets angry about david, and even if robby apologises to her later, he backpedals on that and makes her pay for it by having her deal with david.
santos is angry and catious in the (suspected) child abuse and fireworks kid case, but gets proven wrong both times. her anger about langdon is not important and she gets told to suck it up and to have some 'decorum', when a guy that verbally harrassed her gets zero consequences. samira is angry at her situation, but robby tells her it's all her mommy issues. baran getting angry at robby is disproven when he has the final word and tells her she is incapable. the women are never right when they are angry. and if they are, it's somehow still too much and hysterical.
in patients too. weed gummy mom is hysterical for wanting her kid to stay with her, fent overdose mom is the weird one for needing more time because her son just passed, the daughter of mr spencer is cruel for having a hard time accepting that her father is dying, the abortion case mom, the sister of the fireworks kid. their anger is justified, but is eventually proven wrong. it's interesting that it's always the women who's anger is disproven or unfounded or where they eventually get proven wrong about the thing that they were angry about.
langdon and baran both have medical problems that affect their work, but one is treated diametrically differently and with a lack of empathy. santos and langdon both show agressive behavior, but only one gets told to suck it up. the reasons are justified in one, but not in the other; the men barely get consequences, women are in the wrong. again i'm being very nitpicky, but there are enough examples to note that agression between men and women are treated differently. with men being given reasons and being proven right, while women, even if they have a reason, don't get the same empathy and are often proven wrong or unreasonable by the show.
there are moments where this is not the case, and i will admit that. but it does feel like women's anger really isn't treated as nicely by the narrative and the show in a contrasting way that is worth noting. even in fandom i see this perpetuated in how trinity and baran get treated compared to robby and langdon who get endlessly coddled no matter how much damage and harm they inflict.
this is much like it is in real life, but the amount of women that are proven wrong in their anger is very visible compared to the men and occurs enough for it to be a pattern. it paints the picture that society does too, which is that women are unreasonable and hysterical, while men are cool calm and collected unless they have a good reason. this is of course not true, but it upsets me. from my experiences in medicine i know that my anger was very often not taken seriously, while my male coworkers' anger was. the robby's and langdon's get away with it, even when they are deeply in the wrong. the women? suck it up, or you're out.
Something that I think we need to call out more in fandoms is the blatant racism towards black female characters, especially when they are love interests. I feel that everytime there is a black female love interest, the fandom completely neglects her and rushes to ship the MC with another character that is most of the time white. And then racist fans try to hide behind βoh well I just donβt ship them!β and itβs pathetic. Adding onto this I think that a lot of ppl in fandoms try to deny/ignore that female black characters can be feminine. People try to default being black as an inherently masculine thing when not only is it not true but it is just downright racist. Let black characters be fun and feminine and let them be loved!!!
