It's Canada Day here. A day of poutine, fireworks, bacon poutine (because it's not a COMPLETE heart attack without adding bacon!), joke about how the RCMP only ride moose and how Churchill's only residents are polar bears, and how, as the proud nation we are, we all look towards Quebec... And flip them all off simultaneously. But that's okay! Because everybody in Quebec flips off the rest of the country anyway! Every. Damn. Day.
Anyway... All joking aside...
I have some problems with this 'great' country of ours.
Let me tell ya what they are, in order of how serious they are to us as a country:
1: The MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls), are mostly the fault of your own people.
The media likes to paint that it's only white people that go after Indigenous females, but that's not the case. A lot of it gets swept under the rug, the fault of the Indigenous Peoples themselves. At least 70% of these crimes have been committed by Indigenous men. So what does this mean? It means that the media is whitewashing (pardon the pun) the murders committed by Idigenous men while blaming white people instead. Look, if you want reconciliation and equality, you need to start by accepting the wrongs of your people and wanting them to change. Otherwise, what's the point in equality at all if you're going to let them get off the hook?*
2. Reservations need readily available mental health accessibility.
And I'm speaking as someone who lives in a city that has a reservation close by, Indigenous People living on Reservations NEED mental health accessibility. Why? Well, on the Res, a lot of bad people come into the city that were born and raised on the Res and start killing people or harming animals. And my mom saw this news clip one time several years ago (can't remember exactly what news source it was), and it was a graphic video of Indigenous boys playing tug-of-war with a small puppy until its guts spilled out. And there were MANY MORE dead puppies, even strung up on the sign. So, yeah, mental health accessibility, and maybe some hardcore empathy training (I don't know exactly what 'hardcore empathy training' would entail, but still), for adults and children alike. Oh, yeah, and my mom also saw, when we were living in another part of the city years ago, a couple Indigenous kids locking a small boy securely in a shed and setting the shed on fire with the boy still inside and that boy died in there, so... Yeah.
3. Stop bringing people in!
Let me make this clear: We have a HOUSING CRISIS here in Canada! I understand letting people in that are seeking asylum or escaping an old life, but listen, if we can't take care of the people we already have, we shouldn't be bringing more people in. It's like trying to cram something in a jar that's already full to bursting.
4. The right to defend ourselves (we need it!)
Our big brother (America) is fucked up in many ways, but they do have ONE thing right: The right to defend your home. You know in Canada you can get arrested for defending your own home? And if you have a guard dog that's *trained* to defend your home? That dog's getting euthanized. Canada doesn't allow civilians to have guns (I think we took ONE look at America and thought 'fuck that'), but hunters have A rifle in their gunsafe, and people with military training have weapons! Why should we let these bad people come after us with no consequences? I say if you can kill someone breaking into your home, you should get a fucking medal... And then beat the next unlucky bastard to break into your home to death with it. Either way, this bullshit law needs to be changed.
America has this problem as well and it's fucking horrible: These brave men and women have gone and fought for our country, only to come back and be treated like shit. If anything, they should be treated the best of us all! But then again, maybe I'm a bit biased considering my grandparents on my mom's side and my great-grandfather fought in the wars. Eh, I don't care, I'm still sticking by it! I support and love my Vets!🇨🇦
That's all for now, and I'm sure I missed some shit that wasn't obvious (excluding the Indigenous genocide that was happening back in the day because EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT IT BY NOW), I'll make more stuff when I think of more bullshit that happens.
