After many requests, I’ve made a rebloggable version of my ‘Weather Magic’ page. Here you will find heaps of resources to help you with weather/storm craft. If you’ve read some of my previous posts about weather magic you will notice some similarities - that is because this is a collection of every weather witching post that I’ve ever posted compiled into handy resources post.
Weather Magic
The term “weather magic” or “weather witching” has been used to mean anything from divination and forecasting of weather to actual control and manipulation of the weather itself. From calling up treacherous storms to destroy another’s crops or providing fair winds for those at sea, witches (and even those who do not consider themselves to be such) have always been involved with weather magic. When you consider that most forms of magic are based around an agricultural past, the ability to affect and predict the weather was considered an invaluable skill. After all, if your family’s livelihood depended on the success of your crops (or the ability to find water as it did in my family’s case), weather magic would be an extremely handy thing to know.
Why the url Storm Born Witch?
I am quite fortunate, as the gift for weather related magic comes easily to my family. For generations, the men in my family have been dowsers or water diviners. However, it wasn’t until after I displayed an aptitude to weather related magic that I was told about my family’s history with it. My grandfather was the last water diviner in the family and he died when I was very young so I was never taught how to divine for water. My grandmother was the one to teach me what little she knew about weather magic - the rest either occurred naturally or I picked up along the way.
Calling Up A Wind - Whistling Up A Wind
This is the most common form of weather magic and has been practiced for hundreds of years. Depending on the pitch and tone of the whistle a witch can create a gentle breeze or a sharp gust of wind. Traditionally, if the skill of whistling up a wind does not come naturally to you the option of making a ‘wind whistle’ out of willow or alder wood is available.
Here in Australia, whistling up a wind is probably the most common form of magic I do. I honestly do not go a day without whistling up a cool breeze. It’s bloody hot here and sometimes a cool breeze is just what you need.

Storm Casting
Storm casting is the art of creating storms. There are many different methods to creating storms and bringing rain. The method used by my family is to fill a jug with water and while sitting outside (or facing a window) pour the water into a basin or bowl. Dip the tip of your pointer finger into the water and slowly make five clockwise circles in the water (if you have a pendant necklace this can be used instead - just above the water in the bowl). As you are making the circles call the wind to bring in a storm by blowing (or whistling a continuous low note - the sound of wind over the mouth of a glass bottle) over the water in the basin.

Ways to Stop a Storm (Dispersing, Binding & Preventing)
There are multiple ways to stop a storm. The most common are dispersing or binding storms. However there are also ways to prevent storms from coming by directing them away from where you are. This is great if you’re holding an event outside and you need good weather.
Dispersing
This method involves spreading the storm out over a large area thereby minimising its effects. You can disperse a storm by calling winds to blow it away (or in a certain direction) or if you favour using weather maps you can draw the low pressure system moving away and gradually dissipating.
Binding (Storm Catching)
This method is also called ‘storm catching’ and involves catching a storm and binding it within an object (usually a bottle or knots) so it can be released gradually at a later date by pulling out the cork or undoing the braid/knots.
Resources for Binding Storms
How to bind a storm in your hair by stormbornwitch
How to bind the wind in rope by ioqayin
Storm catching or “reeling in a storm” is even more difficult than storm casting so it’s always wise to think before you cast. Too much energy put into a storm and it will go on for weeks (and cause some flooding - basement incident) or it will be extremely violent and knock down power lines and tree branches. Too little energy and all you will get is a 5 minute shower of rain.
Other ways to stop a storm (Cutting a Storm) by witchuptheroad
Preventing a Storm (Weather Maps)
However, if you wish to prevent a storm from forming, you’re going to have to pull out the weather maps. To make a weather map all you need to do is to print out a map of your local area or the area you’re trying to keep a storm away from.
Just use google maps and don’t make the area too big or you might seriously strain yourself magically. Then laminate the map - now you have your own ‘whiteboard’ to draw weather symbols on to generate certain types of localised weather.
To practice this kind of magic you really do need to know how weather systems work and how they’re likely to move; knowing a little bit about meteorology goes a long way.
Once you’re ready, find out what the weather is predicted to be and draw it on your map. Now draw the high/low pressure systems moving so that the area you’re trying to protect doesn’t get rain. This method can also be used to bring rain to a certain area.

- Marci
Ok so that post about heating water for tea and kettles vs microwaves has me thinking. And while I know an electric kettle is the best because of it's efficiency, speed, and volume, I have yet to hear like an actual argument for why using a microwave to heat the water is bad, despite many people insisting you shouldn't boil it in the microwave. As long as you're boiling the water in a microwave safe cup, it shouldn't make any difference to the tea??
Microwaves heat unevenly. You’ll notice this if you’re trying to heat something particularly dense like mashed potatoes. You get areas that are steaming hot and spots that are ice cold. Well, it does the same with water. Now if you heated just the water itself, stirred it to even out the heat and poured it into a cup to infuse the tea, you’d have a work around for the issue. But what we do is drop a tea bag in cold water and stick in the microwave until the water boils. So the tea itself is exposed to the weird microwave heating conditions. If you’re starting with delicate, good quality tea leaves, this is a terrible way to treat them. In college, I relied on cheap tea bags and with those you probably won’t really notice much of a difference.
I... I didn't realize people put the teabag in the cold water. Our electric kettle was messed up for a minute so I was using the microwave. I'd heat the water first and then plop the tea bag in and bounce it around a little

Let's talk Travel Altars 🖤
My travel altar is something I use pretty often, since I do alot of my spell work outside.
Everyone's (travel) altars will look different. They should be custom to your craft specifically.
Contents
The container I use is an old make-up box with a mirror 🪞
A bag of crystals 🔮 (currently it houses: jet, tourmaline, bloodstone, moonstone, amethyst, clear quartz, and bronzite)
My pendulums, I also keep a pendulum mat folded in my box (see it located under everything)
A journal and pen. I use these to write when sitting outside, when listening to spirits, or when making sigils.
My tarot cards. Currently I use my Radiant Rider-Waite deck. I also bring its reference book 📖
Herbs and oils, as well as an empty jar and bag for collection purposes. Pictured: pink salt, ashes, lavender, rose petals, sage, cinnamon.
My cauldron
Incense, currently I keep some palo santo that was gifted to me.
My Mortar and Pestel, and a small silver plate (used to hold things or as an offering plate when needed)
A small metal tin (I have the ouija board tin from sprit halloween) filled with different colored birthday candles and a box of matches.
Packing it all up
Everything I need is able to be packed away into this little box, with room for more.
I use my altar for my craft, which is primarily focused on spirit work. Yours may not look the same, but I hope mine can bring you inspiration for your own.
Blessed be 🌒🌕🌘

November 30: #secbloggednanowrimo
Get Away Ghost Bean Spell
Scatter beans around your property to deny entry to ghosts for a year. (If plants result, this banishing effect may last even longer!)
Get Away Ghost More Beans Spell
This spell has its roots in ancient Greece and involves spitting or throwing beans at ghosts to make them go away.
Get Away Ghost Yet More Beans Spell.
To prevent hauntings, surround your home with living bean plants. Not only do beans repel ghosts but allegedly, the plants sing to wandering ghosts, guiding them to the next realm. If you'd like to hear these songs, a shamanic art, sit under the vines while they're in bloom. Meditate or allow yourself to fall asleep.
(p. 275, The Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells, Judika Illes)
So if you're keeping score at home, we have already hit the 50k words for nanowrimo, and this is just the added sugar. So what we're talking about today are these three spells, and they are all... about... BEANS. And how you just straight CHUNK some BEANS at some GHOSTS. YEET.
I know there's a few people out here who understand that ghosts may not be able to be fumigated by beans indirectly. But I too must be a ghost because if someone was just absolutely pelting me with beans I'd want to leave the area too. It does amuse me that the 5000 spell book does the “ancient Greece” question, with regards too whether or not the bean throwing is historic or not.
I also enjoy that it doesn't matter what kind of beans it is, just any beans. You throwing beans? ARE YOU THROWING BEANS AT THE GHOST, SON?
Can't wait to just chunk a whole can of lima beans at a ghost one day. Put the lima beans in a shock? What if you just had a sock and some dried beans? And you just swung them around? It could be the counting factor – because again, spilling rice and needing to count. But the beans themselves (and the plants that grow from them) seem to be the anti-ghost in this house hold.
Excuse me while I slip into my bean dress to terrorize the ghosties.
Final Count: 239
In all realness, I'm glad everyone enjoyed the nanowrimo because it's been pretty fun. Saw some fun spells – saw some really bad takes about witchcraft and spellwork as a whole. I like that we have these little deviations and I understand that this “book” like situation probably wasn't what people were signing up for in the first place. I'm sure you wanted me to talk about more specifically how to use the techniques or how to really think about spellwork at a deeper level. But in the end, it's having conversations while also looking at in the wild type spells that can make you a better spell caster over time.
Not everything has to be serious, not everything has to be an emergency. And sometimes you can find spells that solve problems that you never really knew could be addressed via spellwork. Sometimes you find just absolutely silly spells that you think probably don't work anyway, but you cast them only to miss someone in an intersection. The point is that spellwork is extremely varied and you can make spells for literally anything or any reason.
I also want you to be comfortable when it comes to approaching spells in general. They live, they are, and they can be intimidating. So it's fun spells that like this one that's all about the bean toss – bean.. bag... toss? BEAN BAG TOSS IS A GHOST HUNTING METHOD?
If we take spellwork as only a super serious, emergency method only we miss some of the more creative and interesting aspects of spellwork. We also miss some of the weird things that people are doing that would honestly be helpful in spellwork. So let's keep that in mind as you go forward. Find some cool spells, see if they work, and don't mind it if they don't work.
You know?
BEANS.
Final-Final Count: 548

Happy Sunday and Blessed Hunter's Full Moon!
Honey & Honeybee Magic
Magical Properties of Honey
Love & Kindness: The sweetness of honey is reflected in the sweetness of its magic. If you are looking to heal relationships and increase positivity, consider using honey.
Health: There is medical-grade honey for a reason, it promotes wound healing, especially for burns (Mayo Clinic). However, I am not advising you to use honey medically without first discussing it with your doctor. In the more magical sense, honey can also be used for spiritual healing.
Wealth & Bounty: Honeybees actually produce an excess of honey and when humans collect it, it improves the health of the hive. Use honey in your practice to welcome extra wealth.
Magical Associations of Bees
Cooperation & Community: Bees are one of the few truly eusocial insects. They care for their young and communicate with each other through dancing. Through the work of many, tiny bees can produce large hives and large amounts of honey.
Femininity: Female bees are the core of a hive. They care for the young, pollinate flowers, exchange information, and are the only bees that can sting. A queen bee is a female bee that has been fed royal jelly as a grub. Worker bees represent the importance of women in a society.
Renewal: Bees are hardly seen during the winter and their arrival in Spring represents new beginnings. They are a sign of good things to come.
The Sun: Not only do bees emerge in the brighter and longer days as Spring approaches, but they also navigate using the sun. Additionally, their golden honey is reminiscent of the sun. Honey or bee imagery would be helpful in spells related to the sun.
Magical Things to do with Honey
Leave jars of honey in the full moon to imbue them with magical energies
Mix honey into your tea to promote health and positivity
Share honey with someone you want to develop a relationship with, romantic or platonic
Anoint a candle with honey in money spells
Place a jar or bottle of honey on your altar when you are hoping for a raise or bonus
Bee Related Offerings
Mead
Milk mixed with honey
Beeswax candles or wax melts
Honegar
Honey cakes
Flowers
Other Thoughts
Buy local honey if possible! A lot of grocery stores or farmer’s markets sell them.
If you are interested in beekeeping, consider raising a species other than honeybees. There are many species of bees that are invaluable pollinators and we need to work to save them!
Warnings
Honey should not be given to babies under 1 year old (Mayo Clinic). Some people are allergic to bee pollen in honey, be cautious.

decorative candles make me so fucking anxious
Please elaborate
look at these motherfuckers. i’m supposed to burn these fancy pancy objets d'art? after spending money on them??? their very existence embodies a transient state of ornamental impermanence that plummets my soul into the darkest depths of uneasy quivering suspense.
I’m expected to LIGHT THESE ON FIRE??????
in conclusion do not give me fancy candles as a gift. i cannot take the overwhelming psychological burden. i cannot live with the stress of forever wondering if and when i am expected to destroy them. i cannot live in peace with that decision hanging over my head every time I glance at my fucking coffee table. don’t heave that sin upon my shoulders, which already bend hunched with the weight of mine own crimes. the following photo induces only Anxiety and Utmost Grief
let me rest I pray you
that being said, this gif does somehow fill me with a profound sense of calm wellbeing

My life really took a turn for the better once I embraced casual witchcraft. I spent so long thinking I had to do these big spells, or sachets, or build up all these fancy ingredients for one thing– and I do do those, when it’s necessary, but it isn’t the witchcraft that really brightens up my life. The magic that makes me happy is what I put into the bread I bake, the tea I brew, the words I write, the jewelry I craft. Just a little bit goes a long way. It’s much easier to feel the difference of a lot of small things than one big thing. Embrace casual witchcraft. Don’t push yourself too hard. Just do.
I sort of freaked out when our book distributor ran out of copies of the Supernatural tarot with no estimated time for new copies. I wanted a copy for myself and for the shop. Then I went to the publisher's site and saw they were out of print and I don't know if there will be another printing.
So I found some and bought them. I love that ridiculous show and these cards are beautiful. My heart did a thing when I saw Charlie as The Sun.
