when i was a little tween it used to annoy me in fiction when every single supernatural creature knew about each other despite living in completely different societies, even realms, from each other. i was like, okay, well, why do vampire needs to know about fairies any more than humans do? why do they talk to each other? wouldn't fairies just think of vampires as sorta messed up humans anyway?
(i'm not saying i stand by this. but these were my feelings)
so anyway i had this vampire character, nell, who was very much the imaginings of an edgy 11 year old in neopets roleplays in 2002.
she was deeply obsessed with her human brother, who wanted nothing to do with her.
he was dating a guy who happened to be a werewolf, but he didn't know that.
so nell showed up one night to bother them both like "here i am. nathan's vampire sister."
and nathan's werewolf boyfriend, who did not know vampires existed, went back to his pack like, "you guys are NEVER gonna believe this."
which 24 years later, yeah i do think i still funny.
meanwhile the leap seems more obvious to a human. i think if we got definitive proof that werewolves existed, we'd be prepared as a society, even expecting, vampires or whatever else to follow.
so when nathan found out his boyfriend was a werewolf he was like "okay that's. fine. i guess?" and his boyfriend was like, "you're being extremely blasé about this." nathan said, "my sister is a vampire, man." and his boyfriend was like, "okay, I don't see how that has anything to do with me?"
and now that i’m officially moved out: fuck maryland, the state flag is ugly and the mass obsession with it is cringe as hell. rally behind something else why don’t you.
I looked up the flag, why does it look like a warning sign for radiation and a children's hospital had a kid
and when i tell you it’s on Everything.
license plates. shorts. towels. kitchen utensils. koozies. socks. shirts. magnets. bottle openers. planes. bags. nothing is safe from the maryland state flag.
like why.
i fear i’m still somehow underselling this
it is also on EVERY SINGLE STANDARD LICENSE PLATE
Moving away from that place was a Good decision
So Mushu gets reimagined as a queer human woman in this
FINALLY reading the Mulan retelling from Disney's Meant to Be Series
I have mixed feelings but mostly positive
Buuut
Okay
So Mulan and Shang just got to a river that is running fast and there are no jokes about it being swift or coursing and I can't tell if it's good that she avoided the obvious joke or if it's just a missed opportunity
Anyway I do like the author a lot
She has a mystery series called Vera Wong that's pretty funny
2 books so far with 2 more planned, I highly reccomend it
Huh, didn't know this was a thing. Modern day retelling? I feel like it'd be hard to adapt to the modern day though, the sexism involved is kinda a major part of it.
So I read the summary:
As the right hand of her father’s private equity company, Fa Mulan knows what it takes to succeed as a woman in a man’s world: work twice as hard, be twice as smart, and burp twice as loud as any of the other finance bros she works with. So when her father unexpectedly falls ill in the middle of a critical acquisition, she is determined to see it through. There’s just one hitch: the family company in question is known for its ultra masculine whiskey brand, and the brood of old-fashioned aunts, uncles, and cousins who run it—lead by the dedicated but overworked Shang—will only trust Mulan’s father, Fa Zhou, with the future of their business.
Rather than fail the deal and her father, Mulan pretends she’s Fa Zhou. Since they’ve only corresponded over email, how hard could it be to keep things moving in his absence?
But the email leads to a face-to-face meeting, which leads to an invitation to a week long retreat at Shang’s family ranch. One meeting she can handle, but a whole week of cattle wrangling, axe-throwing, and learning proper butchering techniques, all while trying to convince Shang’s dubious family that this young woman is the powerful private equity CEO they’ve been negotiating with? Not so much—especially as she finds it harder and harder to ignore the undeniable spark between her and Shang.
Can she keep her head in the game and make her father proud, all while trying not to fall into a trough, or in love with Shang?
Okay, so it looks like they're handing this by just making Shang's family really sexist for the modern day. That's one way to do it, I guess.
After looking at all the other "meant to be" summaries, this one definitely looks like it's hewing the closest to the themes of the story it's based on, at least.
To be honest they really do take a lot of liberties here
As an adaptation it's kind of hit or miss but I do enjoy it as its own thing
Better than the last Disney inspired book I tried reading

Huh, didn't know this was a thing. Modern day retelling? I feel like it'd be hard to adapt to the modern day though, the sexism involved is kinda a major part of it.
Long story short
She's trying to impress Shang's super misogynistic alpha male family
The series basically takes a LOT of liberties with the stories so it's far from a straight up adaptation
But basically
Mulan works for her dad's financial firm
Her dad has been emailing Shang because he is interested in purchasing the Li family's business
They sell whiskey
Then Mulan's dad has a heart attack before he can close the deal, so Mulan tries to close it for him
But Li's family is super sexist so she has to prove how masculine she is by going to their ranch and doing manly ranch stuff like herding cows and horseback riding
Also, she doesn't pretend to be a man but she is pretending to be her dad because they really started to trust him through the emails
The series also does Cinderella
With a fat Cinderella and a dating show angle
The Little Mermaid (Can't recall the angle on that one) Tangled (I think that one involved race cars? But I could be mixing it up with another book I spotted)
As well as Beauty and the Beast
Ok there's a car on the cover but I was getting it mixed up with another unrelated book
This one just seems to be a road trip

I just found out the offspring of a goat and sheep is called a GEEP and they’re the cutest lil shits ever I want 200 of them
A baby
VS an adult
Coool as fuck they have two sets of horns
Goats are associated with Satan and lambs are associated with God.
We have created the official half demon/angel and I’m very pleased
Limbo is just filled with these. Purgoatory if you will.

my family has had some pretty interesting encounters with psychics/mediums that seem genuine in the past, but nothing will ever be funnier to me than the last guy my mom talked to who was so definitely bullshitting, because she said "I was hoping to hear from my husband" and the guy went "he said....it's okay to Move On" and like. every single person my mom has recounted this too has been like "He Would Not Fucking Say That". as if this was an ooc fanfic about my father. it's just so fucking funny. fake psychic dude take your shitty headcanons about my ghost dad and LEAVE!!!
like, my parents were legitimately insane about each other. I cannot stress how much he wouldn't say that. I have to assume his ghost was standing right next to this fake psychic yelling "WHAT THE FUCK!!!!" when he told my mom to move on lmfao
actually. funnier to imagine he was a Real Psychic who was just trying to put a move on my mom and didn't think the ghost would do anything about it and now is now dealing with a violently angry haunting for the rest of his days lmfao
this psychic for the rest of his life all because he tried to hit on some dead guy's wife in an elevator
Ghost Dad: WE LITERALLY CHANGED OUR VOWS BECAUSE WE DIDN'T LIKE "TILL DEATH DO US PART"
Psychic: he says you need a real man. a tangible one. a man visible to the average eye.
Psychic: I also choose this guy’s still-alive wife.
Okay but story where the ghost is trying to protect their spouse from being scammed by fake psychics by recruiting a real psychic
inside my little chamber made of glass
PROBABLY NOT HIM SPECIFICALLY,,..... i think that guy traumadumps to all of his plants equally ☝️🤓 #RealCrier
