ok understandably my friend has rescheduled the visit - I was hoping to go and help out while she has her new baby, but I think she maybe wants to have a bit more of a handle on things before I visit. Very understandable, although I wish we could have organised that from the start instead of losing £126 on the train fare when I'm already unemployed 😭 but at least I get to see them in a few weeks anyway! This time I've booked the long ass coach journey which will take 9 hours each way but only cost £65 for the return trip.
I guess I will mail up a card and the cardigan I'm making (I'm due to finish it today so will post it tomorrow) and keep texting in the meantime!
can we bring back the term "fair-weather friend" bc I feel like if fair-weather friends got called that more this whole argument about whether or not you should be there for your friends when it's inconvenient/at what point of personal inconvenience it's ok to bail on your friends would kinda fall apart bc like. we literally have a word for "friend who's only there when you don't need something from them" because the baseline expectation is that a friend should be there even when it sucks. like we used to make fun of people for bailing on their friends.
