Appalachian here and yes. When I moved briefly more towards the coast I never understood Bilbo's "I want to see mountains again, MOUNTAINS Gandalf" more. I want to see mountains on my commutes. I want to get lost in the woods. I want to smell that sharp, tangy smell of the earth there. I want to lose hours among the trees. I hike because it feels like home every time I walk into the tree line. On the bay, there was hiking, but it was swamps. It was fun. It wasn't home.

I long for the ocean in all the impossible ways. I despise the mountains with all my heart.
