oh my god look at these unused susie sprites. she looks so gentle and friendly here wtf
What if the Mystery Man sprite was never even meant to be Gaster, and that's who's behind the trees in Deltarune giving eggs.
Mystery Man was presumably a scrapped idea from Undertale, but his appearance in the final version became:
A room, hidden between two other rooms, highly unlikely to be found unless specifically sought out, in which he doesn't have any spoken lines. Just a lone, mysterious, smiling man, who upon interaction disappears in an instant.
Just an Easter Egg.
What if, in a lost iteration of Undertale, this Mystery Man spoke? What if he had a story? A personality? A script to follow and a part in its world?
We'll never know, because we replaced him.
We imprinted interconnected assumptions onto the man's identity. The Mystery Man - the TRUE Mystery Man - is no longer just a mystery, but entirely forgotten. Forgotten by Undertale. Forgotten by Deltarune. Forgotten by us, a world of players and fans who could have known him proper.
Forgotten, sometimes, by himself.
Only in Chapter 3's Egg Room, when he's in a world so far back in time that he can speak - an unfinished world, amongst other forgotten relics - does he reveal things about himself and his demeanour.
He's not an angel. He's not a demon. He's not some mad scientist stretched between the fabric of time and space.
He's just a man.
Jovial, playful, somewhat confused, and smiling.
He lost his identity, and his sprite was ripped from him, given to some unknown metaphysical scientist in a layer of reality he can't perceive.
Now, he hides behind the tree.
He waits for us. Keeping himself alive, what little he can, for as long as he can.
Not too important. Not too unimportant.
Just an Easter Egg.

deltarune fact 1: shadow crystals contain "the power of lost dreams" deltarune fact 2: pink's lost dream is very clearly being a woman deltarune guess: it's not that big of a leap to assume spamton neo's shadow crystal comes from the same desire (this time being mettaton's desire) deltarune fact 3: the hammer of justice does not use his shadow crystal, and he does not show any signs of discomfort with his gender moral of the story: the crystals are gender dysphoria
I think a big problem in the current state of deltarune character discussion is that we've been stuck with a static image of the characters at a specific part of their arcs for years. Deltarune is a game that was never written for episodic releases like this, it's designed to be played beginning to end. We've had the chapter 2 idea of how Susie and Ralsei in particular are supposed to act for a LONG time, and now that we have chapters where that characterization has evolved, it feels weird to a lot of people.
In terms of trans ralsei, a lot of pushback I've seen seems to be on the basis of traits very specific to the chapters 1+2 era. This is also true in how people are talking about Susie lately. If Deltarune released all at once, our conception of these characters would be based on their whole arc, beginning to end, but since we've had nothing but the early stages of their development for a long time, it's very warped I think

some bullshit
I have a template but couldn't fit it
This scene here really captures everything that I find so beautiful and tragic about Kris and Noelle's relationship. The reason this is such a poignant scene for me isn't just that it shows Kris and Noelle's relationship is still as strong as ever; it's also because it shows that it's strong despite the fact that both of them think they don't deserve to be together again! Because they want to be close again, and yet they just can't bring themselves to do so because their low self-esteem and inferiority complexes keep telling them that they're not good enough.
The sad fact is, you'll find plenty of moments where Kris and Noelle don't think that they can be close to each other ever again, whether it be Kris shutting the book when they see pictures of them and Elly, or Noelle doubting that Kris would want to play piano for her after Susie talks about her newfound love for Kris's piano playing.
And yet, despite all of their doubts telling them they can never be together again, both of them not only spend time with each other at the festival, but end up doing things that remind both of them of what they used to have, be it riding the Ferris Wheel or voting for each other as Festival King/Queen.
Because the only thing Kris and Noelle want as much as to build their connection with Susie is to build back up their connection with each other! And I got a good feeling that Susie is gonna play a huge role in helping them do so!
