and maybe will is bucket off on the opposing team's bench, something weird with his chin strap that he's trying to get the equipment guy to fix, and he looks up at the ice just as mack skates by, laughing at something the equipment guy is saying, so it's almost like he's laughing right at mack, like they're having a conversation somehow, and mack just thinks, oh. Oh. Oh.
and then, of course, he stalks will online for the next year and constantly circles gabe trying to get him to talk about will without making it seem like mack’s asking. texts zeev, who he hasn’t talked to since shattuck, that he hopes it’s going well at the program, just hoping that zeev will tell him what it’s like in a way that involves will. watches all will’s highlights. watches all will’s interviews, too, chest feeling a little tight while he does.
