No one discovers “a secret third thing” better than people with ADHD
Oh hey, it’s me.
still caring about internet friends you lost touch with years ago is so embarrassing. yeah i had a deam we met up irl recently. the last time we spoke was maybe 7-8 years ago. i still wear the laces we randomly decided was a sign of our friendship. i dont know what any of your socials are or if youre even active on any. sometimes i see someones art resemble yours and i wonder for hours. do you still go by that name you chose? whenever i see it i wonder if its you. we couldve passed each other in this vastness a thousand times and not have a clue.
we were lonely kids having fun together. do you remember?

"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.
someone made a website where you can declare your favorite pokemon & why. let's all see if every pokemon is someone's favorite... Together
:) every pokemon is someone's favorite
This is what I've been trying to explain to people: the problem with AI isn't just what it makes, it's that if you need to validate or change literally anything then you need to be able to check under the hood. The more complex the operation is that you asked it to perform, the more in trouble you're going to be in if you need to explain how it works.
26 years in the coding business. 16 years teaching padawans how to code.
Since the slop came into our life, I keep repeating over and over: a piece of software does not stop to matter after it's release. If you created something that is used "out there", you will need to maintain it and probably extend it. You have to know it by heart for this to work. Ever fixed someone else's legacy code in overtime at night or on weekends? With the customers, your boss and the shareholders breathing down your neck? Learn the basics. Cover your bases. Maybe AI can help you with some snippets if need be, but in the end, you're gonna be held responsible and sit there at the weekends, not captain Claude, or their Copilot or some other Chatbot. It's your ass in the crosshairs...
Here's a mastiff completing the agility trial at a dog show.
The excited cheers of the crowd as this drool monster begrudgingly jumps, has made my 2025 already.
@shrimpsisbugs exact opposite to that borderpap
i could cry
Honestly i love how this shows how completely different dog breeds can be. Like, you can take a papillion over that course at warp 9 but this guy isn't built for that speed! He's taking his time! Hes got a lot of bulk to move!
This has tanker relay energy. Do people know about tanker relays outside my home county?
I was on the track & field team in high school as a thrower. Shot put, javelin, and discus. All required lots of muscle and a low center of gravity. Track & field includes throwers, sprinters, jumpers, pole vaulters, and distance runners. Each of these events requires VASTLY different strengths and skills, and therefore extremely varied body types.
It was rare for someone to do multiple of those things because we were all minmaxing our bodies so much based on our event: the distance runners were elfin, the sprinters were lean and muscular, the jumpers were lanky. The throwers? We were tanks. The sprinters can’t get through our workouts, and we can’t get through theirs: it’s just science.
If a meet was running ahead of schedule, or if we really needed a tie breaker and there were no official events left, we would do something called a Tanker Relay. It’s a simple 4x100m relay race, which is already part of the meet…except the throwers do the running.
This mastiff doing an agility course is exactly what that looks like. Look at that guy. You know he’s perfectly designed and built for something, and you know for SURE that this ain’t it. And the crowd during a tanker relay acts JUST like this. People get wild cheering for these tanks moving as fast as we can, slower than you can imagine a sprint ever being. It’s maybe mildly self-deprecating, but the bottom line is that it shows off just how specialized we are and (for me) that being super good at one thing sometimes means you CAN’T be good at something else.
Science fiction is full of first contact stories, but is there a such thing as LAST contact? Decide exactly what that means, and write about it.
It was too late, when the humans came. They were a young species, still exploring outwards, vital and thriving.
We… were not.
War had ravaged us, and sickness, and war once again, until our population dwindled beyond the point of recovery. We struggled against that, of course… we used genetic manipulation, and cloning, and even more desperate measures. None succeeded. When the humans came, we were sinking into apathy, only a few tens of us left. We had begun to discuss whether we should commit a mass suicide, or simply wait to fade away.
And then the young species came, in their clumsy ships, and they asked us why we were so few.
“We are becoming extinct,” we told them. “We have passed the point of recovery.”
It is custom to avoid the races that are dying – once a species reaches the point of inevitable extinction, even war is suspended, and the fiercest enemy pulls back. The custom was born of plagues and poisons that could be carried forth from a dying world to afflict a healthy one, but it has the implacable weight of tradition now. After we are gone, after they have waited for the prescribed period of quarantine, there will be a fight for our world. Habitable worlds are few, and this is a good one, with plenty of free groundwater and thriving vegetation. It is a bitter thing to be grateful for the custom that allows us to die in peace, but we are grateful.
But the humans don’t know that custom, and they do not leave. They seem distraught, when we tell them we are dying, and try to offer their aid - but their technology is behind ours, and it is too late. When they realize that they can’t save us, though, they do something that bewilders us.

Swarovski can continue to fuck off.
In 2021, Swarovski (the company that makes the very sparkly crystals you see in certain jewelry, on figure-skaters' twinkliest outfits, on red carpet dresses), decided they didn't want the grubby fingers of small-time jewelers, clothing designers and costumers and crafters on their shiny beads and rhinestones anymore. They decided to limit their sales to "luxury" and couture creators, not girls who sell stuff on Etsy. The tenor of their press release on the subject was snide and insulting. Resellers (like your favorite bead shop) would no longer be allowed to carry their product; the average Jane on the street would not be able to purchase them. You could only get them if you had an authorized business agreement that bound you to very strict brand behavior. And those of us who still had good stock of the crystals would no longer be "permitted" to use the brand's name in our listings for sale.
Every bead shop and craft supply place and many, many small clothing makers--wedding shops, prom and dancing dress suppliers, the sort of salt of the Earth mom and pop time machines of shops that are the backbone of the field--scrambled to find something that could replace them. The last of the stock dwindled quickly, all of us grabbing what we could get while there was any chance of it, and then it was gone and we no longer had any access.
I was Big Pissed about it at the time. It was just so goddamn stuck-up, when wholesalers and indie jewelers had made them so much money, when some people I knew--when *I!*--had been brand-loyal for decades. But with no recourse, everyone pivoted fairly quickly, most of us to Preciosa Crystals. Those are Czech, quite sparkly, and considerably less expensive than Swarovski. The faceting method they use is different, but not worse; any differences are hardly noticeable when you're seeing them as a hundred pinpoints of light.
Well, out of nowhere, Swarovski just dropped this: https://www.harmanbeads.com/swarovski-brand-policy-update
"Effective June 1, 2026, Swarovski updated the distribution and brand usage policies introduced in 2021. Businesses may now purchase Swarovski Crystals without signing a Brand Control Agreement, and Authorized Distribution Partners may once again sell Swarovski Crystals to resellers, including bead stores and online retailers. Businesses may also use the Swarovski brand name when following Swarovski’s Proper Use Guidelines. Designers, manufacturers, artists, brands, retailers, and resellers are now eligible to purchase Swarovski Crystals through authorized distribution channels."
They want us back. A lot of the companies who could have kept a brand relationship with them also have swapped to Preciosa, over the last half-decade, in solidarity with indie creators and out of a sour awareness that it could be them, next. And it doesn't hurt that Preciosa was able to expand their line quite a bit now that everyone who wanted sparkle had no choice but to go to them.
And I'm not seeing nearly anyone who intends to return. The feeling is, "Y'all told us to fuck off! Off we fucked! And now, that's what you can do, too!" I'm seeing a lot of "How many of us did you stab in the back?" comments from the people whose money they're hoping to attract.
And personally I'm sitting over here all rubby hands, mean snickering, because they really thought they were going to be able to outclimb the people who actually provided all their profits, and now here they are, hat in hand.
holy shit, I missed this.
.....
So very glad I've been buying Czech beads from the start. Preciosa is very nice, so are...well, I haven't been disappointed by anything they've produced yet. Which is now like 16 years worth of beads (wtf)

If anyone would like to read a thorough take down of Sparta as a state not worth emulating, then ive got just the series of articles for you!
Reblogging because pissing on Sparta is one of my hobbies. And yes, totally check out the link above. Brett has a lot of great discussion and scholarship on why Sparta was proto-fascist garbage, and he presents it with both snark and accessibility.
Holy shit. That’s… that’s worse than I thought it would be. Yikes.
Reblogging because more people should read the ACOUP Sparta takedown and fewer people should get their concept of history from fucking 300.
No one should get their concept of history from 300, and I say that as someone who enjoyed 300. 300 is a comicbookification of a legend, and legends are already exaggerations.
A Great Divorce has also done an audio version of the ACOUP Spart takedown if audio is easier for you!
