The Istanbul Convention was adopted to prevent violence against women and domestic violence, which has been an ongoing issue in Turkey for years. However, this law protecting women has not been implemented properly and it is now completely abolished.
While the government is taking away our right to live from us overnight in the women's history month; women are being killed, tortured, and their murders are being covered up. 78 women were murdered by men in the first 78 days of 2021.
If you are not aware of the contents of the Istanbul Convention please continue reading. Because the rights given to women by law are vital for all women;
● Placement of women and children in a shelter
● Providing temporary protection in cases where life is threatened
● Removing the person who showed violence from the house and preventing them from approaching the woman’s addresses such as housing, school, workplace
● Preventing the attacker from contacting the woman via communication tools such as telephone, mail, social media,
● Hiding the address of the woman who has been subjected to violence in order not to be seen by any institution
● Change of workplace can be requested
● The violator to surrender his gun to the police (even if he is serving as a police and gendarmerie)
● Temporary financial assistance
● Temporary custody and child support
