Another question that's impossible to answer is why do people [discourage someone else from writing]? It's hard to answer because it's all different reasons.

Sometimes it's about power and control. Stop doing what you're doing and do what I want you to do. Stop writing what you're writing and write what I want you to write. Or else.

If no one else likes it, but you do, keep going.

If it makes no money and you need it to make money to keep going, reduce scope and scale until it’s affordable without income. It’s fine.

If you don’t have time, same advice. Reduce scope until you can do what you can do and keep going. It’s fine.

If you have to pause to handle life, reduce scope until you can keep going and/or pause until you can resume, then once you can resume, keep going.

There is no such thing as wasted time.

“Wasted time” is an invention of capitalism to distance the experience of being alive from the purpose — which you, as a person, an individual — must continually develop.

Gatekeeping exists as a function of inflating egos. Ego exists as a way to provide satisfaction without having actually produced something.

My art career has held the spectrum of “I Have Money” down to “I’ll pay you next Tuesday for a hamburger today, friend.”
