I'm obsessed with the fact that black sails had the premise of "Okay, we know in treasure island that Flint is considered to be the most terrifying and accomplished pirate ever, at least by Silver. What happened to get him there?" and the answer they reached was "He was gay, in a polyamorous relationship, all of his crimes were a crusade against institutionalised homophobia, and Silver hates talking about him because they had a very intense and complicated relationship with a truly astonishingly bad breakup" like yes! Yes!! Bravo!!! Perfect writing perfect storytelling character motivations peaked with this!!!!!

The past is greedy, always swallowing you up. If you don’t hold it back, if you don’t dam it up, it will spread and take and drown. The past is not a receding horizon. Rather, it advances one moment at a time, marching steadily forward until it has claimed everything and we become again who we were; we become ghosts when the past catches us.
