My dear friend. As you realised, using references makes your art better! There is absolutely no reason not to use them :)

I use references all the time. And when I don’t have fitting ones available, I’ll snap some photos of myself to use as reference. Every artist gets better results using references than without. That quality difference is very normal, but will decrease the better you get. Keep practising with and without reference, but don’t be frustrated, okay? 😊
