First days suck when you have no friends. I already know how it’s going to go, because it’s how it always goes for me. Even at my old school I sat alone, always close to the door so I could make a quick getaway if I needed to. I’d been in that school system my whole life, and I still started every year alone. I’d pick up some friends along the way, but they’d forget about me by the time summer break was over, and then I’d start all over again. When I was feeling cynical, I’d joke that my friendships had an expiration date of one year.
