movies don't create psychos

I think something we’re not talking about enough (yes I am aware that literally the entire movie world is talking about nothing else. it’s still not enough) is the way that Obsession perfectly blends good writing, good cinematography, & good acting. The “darkness is a color, sweetie” scene is SUCH a good encapsulation of the way this movie blends creepy eerie shadows & angles with a brilliantly terrifying & emotionally visceral performance from Indy Naverette with truly intense lines. the entire monologue is genuinely horrific & intense on its own & deserves merit as a pure poem but then combine that with one of the best performances in cinematic history & some truly brilliant shadow angles??? goodbyee

also like yes I am going l keep glazing obsession but seriously the fucking TIMING. It’s so telling that Curry Barker got his start in comedy. I absolutely love to see filmmakers who specialize in either comedy or horror jumping to the other for this exact reason. Both genres rely on holding tension & releasing it at the. Exact. Right. Moment. to get the proper audience response & it’s such a beautiful art form to see it done right. the way that the scene transitions are always so seamlessly at the exact right moment throughout Obsession so that every disturbing moment we sit with too long is sickening & every transition feels meaningful to what it’s juxtaposed with & every jump scare is genuinely visceral. I’m really noticing it more than ever in just the regular mundane transitions this third time watching, the way we always hold on moments for the exact right amount of time if that makes sense. Every interaction feels meaningful & every transition takes us to the next important moment. This movie is never rushed but it also does not waste a single second of its runtime.
