He tries to be a doctor and a soldier to find the discipline he’ll need to keep on the straight and narrow, and when those professions fail him, he finds Sherlock. Whether Sherlock will actually help or hinder his determination to be a good man remains to be seen, though.

Why You Should Read It: I first learned about this fic from Mad_Lori, who promised a scintillating read that kept her up until 1 in the morning, so of course I was curious. And you know what? I stayed up until 2 to finish it.

Nine Tenths of the Law by bendingsignpost

Summary: John is very, very aware of how human his new flatmate is, but he doesn’t allow himself to fantasize about that body, or that gorgeous neck - the Watsons have always had self-control issues. Because of this caution, though, John hasn’t planned for the day when someone else might make a move on the detective instead.

How the Heart Burns by Ani

Summary: When they leave to take down Moriarty’s network, John wants to protect Sherlock from the horror of what they must do, so he takes all the kills himself. Except that this doesn’t seem to work out quite the way he’d hoped.
