Dildos?🤗

Do they not have skulls!? Why is it mushy there!?!? @bunjywunjy
well of course beluga has a skull!! that's just not where it is.
see, you wouldn't necessarily pick up on this, but beluga skulls (and most cetacean skulls in general) are pretty much
flat...
so what's going on up there? well, most of the beluga's head is taken up by soft tissue and a large organ called the melon, which is basically a big ol waterballoon of semiliquid fat!
(boob. it's a head boob.)
this organ is found in every toothed whale and dolphin species on the planet and it's INCREDIBLY important, because the melon is what lets them echolocate!
the actual sound-producing organ is inside their nasal passage of all places, which sits up behind there, but the melon is what's actually used to fine-tune the soundwaves into the laser-accurate pinpoints that dolphins and toothed whales are so famous for.
tldr: without their head boob, belugas and their relatives would be literally flying blind!
does slapping the melon like that hurt it ? like does it affect how it works or anything
@weirdgirlwambsgans @vampire-juicebox you guys are in luck bc it does not! Belugas will squish their melons voluntarily against things like rocks and glass. Think of it like when you squish your butt (but at the same time not, bc they have no nerve endings beyond the skin) they even voluntarily let humans play with it!
This is a strong creature, if that hurt or bothered it, you would know
Something I need to be reminded of often. Yes, I'm very lazy and also have executive problems up the wazoo (the difference? laziness is fun), but the cultural expectation of being productive every waking moment isn't healthy either. And the business of feeding ourselves is especially fraught these days.
I’ve had this conversation with people before where I’ll say so-and-so ceo are literally murdering people/mass murderers/whatever you want to call them and the initial reaction will be like “hey woah that’s a bit harsh isn’t it?”
But is it harsh? If you make a decision to increase profits by, say, making sure your company will deny health care coverage to somebody with a terminal illness then you have purposely killed that person.
They talk themselves and those around them into thinking it isn’t murder by using technical terms that remove the personhood from their victims. A human being and their entire life becomes a number on a spreadsheet that can be passed out at an investor meeting and everybody can congratulate themselves on what a fine profit they’ve made this year.
This also isn’t limited to a single area like health care. If the people in charge of a railway company cut corners on maintenance and overwork their employees that’s a deliberate act to increase profits. When an employee or bystander dies or a derailment causes an environmental problem as a result then that’s on the owners. You can insert the executives of any industry into this and it remains true.
It just isn’t polite to point that out and sometimes, when the illusion of polite society is shattered, people react violently. Or close their eyes and pretend not to notice. It is unsettling to know for a fact that the people with all the power would happily kill you and everyone you love for a higher number on that spreadsheet.

found a really, really wise take on bluesky
Anarchist tip: if you need some piece of equipment, or anything really, look up if there are any alternatives designed in or otherwise for exploited countries. People have invented many of the necessities for renewable power, medicine, machining, internet - all the comforts of modern life really - in ways that are low-tech, small-scale, often made of recycled or abundant materials, using little to no electricity, and best of all, absurdly cheap
Like a microscope and centrifuge made of paper that cost less than a dollar together, and a non-electric sun tracker for solar panels that costs about 1/30 what a commercial sun tracker does
Great for squats, occupations, communes, mutual aid, personal independence, etc.

In summary: the Soviet Union falls and Cuba’s primary economic partner and source of parts, expertise, and material ceases to exist, and so to make do the government starts to print and distribute technical manuals and textbooks on, say, electronics, or mechanical engineering, which enabled the people both to maintain and prolong the use of existing appliances, but also to make and jury-rig other solutions to their problems, like home-made battery charges for hearing aid batteries and the like.

farmers tell stories like "when i was a boy me and my brother got stung by sting worms"
"Well uncle don was out burning his feild (as you do before plantin) when he had a stroke, good thing someone saw him so he didnt burn to death. Anyway how are doing?"
This stops being quite as "zany shitpost" and becomes "Accidental Performance art commentary on Accessibility" when you consider the vast number of people unable to sit upright or leave a bed, most or all the time. No you don't see us, we're in bed either all the time or when our conditions flare up and put us there regularly.
When i first saw this I thought, "HAH- too bad that's not a feasible thing, then I could go so many public places while still safely cushioned and laying down!"
...only then did I realize how many people would never see it that way.
