I keep thinking about how wild it must be to be entering Furin High at the same time as Sakura. Like, not even being in the same class as him. Just the same year. Like, imagine you’re an incoming fresh man. You’re so stoked for your first year as an official member of Bofurin! Then you hear rumors about some outsider transferring in, and you’re like, huh? Who’s this outsider? What does he want?
And then you see him for the first time and he’s got black and white hair and heterochromia! You’ve never seen someone that looks like him in real life! As if he already wasn’t a hot topic before, now everyone’s talking about his looks because. Yeah. Look at him! He hasn’t even spoken a word yet, but people are already talking about him.
And then you hear, not from rumors, you actually hear from the class next door because those guys are loud as all heck. You hear them cheering because apparently this outsider is the one that took on the Spaltips all by himself yesterday. School hasn’t eve started yet, and he’s already doing good deeds around the neighborhood so you look at your friends and all nod your heads solemnly like, yeah, okay, this guy might be okay.
And then you hear him say that he plans to take the top spot with his whole chest and you see a tall gangly guy blur past your classroom door at top speed and hurl a desk and you turn to your friends wide eyed like. That was him right? That was Sugishita? Umemiya’s number one follower? Fifteen years old and almost 200 cm tall? That guy?
One of your friends takes out his phone and starts inputting 119. And then. You hear cheers again. Because the new guy beat him. You saw him earlier. He is of average height and not the most muscular looking guy. And he beat Sugishita. You turn to your friends slack jawed. What the heck. What in Sam Hill.
Then Umemiya’s announcement comes on and you go off in groups to do patrols and all you and your peers can talk about is the new guy and all of his exploits and the upperclassman assigned to your group asks what you’re talking about and you’re just like. Senpai. Senpai listen. The new guy, Sakura? He beat Sugishita this morning. And you all get to talking and raving, which is fine because it turns out to be a pretty peaceful day so you and your group don’t do much besides a couple of simple odd jobs here and there.
Then you make it back to Furin High safe and sound. Or so you think. Not long after, some guys from Shishitoren show up and you’re like??? Why are they here??? Wait, are they beating up other Bofurin members? Why?What is their problem? And then Umemiya himself comes down to meet them along with some other guys. You recognize Hiragi, Sugishita, Suo (who you’ve mostly just heard vague rumors about), a freckled blond for some reason? And is that— Yup, it is. It’s Sakura. Again. And you look at your friends and are like??? Is he involved?
And they all start talking and Shishitoren’s second in command comes up and personally challenges Sakura to a fight. And you’re just like. How. How did it escalate like this.
THIS IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. How did they get to this point???
And the next day you just. Have to go through the school day like normal while a handful of students go off to fight in a tournament with a rival gang and somehow the school staff expects you to be normal about that. You don’t expect to hear about the results until the next day, but at the very least, you have faith in Umemiya and Hiragi. You don’t expect everyone to win, and Sakura’s match-up seems especially one-sided, but at the very least, you hope everyone gets out of it okay.
Come next day, you hear that every single Furin member won their match. Yes, this includes Sakura. Wow. Okay. Huh. Wowzers. Okay.
And then roughly a week after, you see Sakura's ENTIRE CLASS leave school before classes even start and you look at your friends with raised brows and start joking that they're off to start another gang war. And you find out later that that is more or less exactly what they did.
And then you reach a brief period of calm (although you and your firends are just counting the days until you hear about another Sakura-related Incident) and somehow you bump into Sakura himself in the middle of the hall between classes. And you think woah. Okay. Calm down. It's Sakura. Shoot. Say something cool. Wait, no, you just bumped into him. Apologize.
So you do just that. Even offer him a piece of candy both by way of apology and as a bit of a joke. And then. And then. He blushes, says it's no big deal, it's not like it hurt or anything idiot. Then he thanks you for the candy and hastily runs off.
And you just stand there like. What. What in the. Huh. On top of everything you've already learned about him, he turns out to be a tsundere too?!
