You don't need to meditate as a part of your witchcraft or religious practice.
You really don't.
Sure but you won’t reach your fullest
"Fullest" what?
By all means, tell a native Chinese Buddhist all you know about meditation.
🙄
Here we go with the "this is a universal thing you must do to practice magic" bullshit again.
Well when you put intent into your practice, it is a form of meditation. When you perform mental or physical activity with intention and presence, it is a form of meditation. Meditation is not always just sitting there with your eyes closed and clearing your mind. People meditate without realizing it all the time. People in the comments saying "I don't meditate but i...." and then they describe a form of meditation. So no it's not that you have to meditate but if you're practicing witchcraft it's quite likely you're already doing it and are just unaware of the broad range of techniques you may be utilizing. In witchcraft we make connections to the earth. Whatever way we make that connection, it is through presence focus and intent. Aka meditation. Performing a dance as a sacrifice to the gods? You're meditating on your intention of your physical activity. Same with crocheting while doing knot spells. There's no universal "rules" to meditation. It is so broad that it is just a natural part of connecting to nature. Did you make cookies today with the intent of incorporating specific energies? Thats...meditation. focus presence and intent. I honestly can't think of a craft that doesn't do this. So OP (and others) instead of being such narcissists, why don't you explain your perspective on meditation and how exactly these aren't forms of meditation and what parts of witchcraft don't include it. Educate me if I'm so wrong because this is what I really believe and if I'm wrong I'd like to understand where. Only with civil and respectful intentions from others of course.
The moment you called me and my friends "narcissists" was the moment when I lost all interests in anything else you have to say, or further engaging with you in any manner for that matter.
The only narcissistic thing happening on this post is @hekatedeipnon presuming to know everything about everyone in the world’s witchcraft practice. Check yourself.
That person took my opinion, rolled their eyes at it, askd a question abd blcoked me before i could answer, tried to use the logical fallacy called "appeal to authority" just because they're Chinese native (a lot of people are chinese natives but theyre not a collective hivemind that all agree with each other), and provided no real argument for their claim, only denouncing mine. Even though I provided insight on my opinion and opened conversation to recieve other opinions. It was extremely narcissist yet I'm still here open to others opinions. I think she refuses to address what i said because she doesn't have an argument other than "I'm an authority here because I'm Chinese native so what I say goes!" It's easy to say "you said the word narcissist, even though i had a narcissistic attitude, and this is my "out" of admitting maybe I was wrong". Otherwise I'm willing to hear a real argument!
Why respond to just block me after? To get the last word in? Why so afraid to have a conversation that might be different from what you believe
“Have we forgotten how to hunger? Witchcraft has not, standing as it does in the thin line between the diminishing wild and a civilisation devouring itself. The bones stand out on us, a rolling loping dirty fur offering a red flower for a mouth. We do not expect to be understood, or welcomed by the herd or at the hearth. We have our own company to keep, our own loves and customs. Ours is the clamped tenacity that bears down the antler crowns of kings. Our desire, a glowing stolen coal of a heart.
We must be hungry for this knowledge. The hunger that ravens and slams against the cage of bone and wind, that scents blood through the crazed labyrinth of silver birch. We must leave if we are to return rather than mock snarl behind the muzzle of our social selves, to imagine as wolf and never feel that engine of raw need that sharpens us into other worlds and ghosts across the endless tundra of exile. In essence we must become rewilded.”
Apocalyptic Witchcraft by Peter Grey
this site definitely doesn't allow you to paste the link to any article blocked by a paywall (say, a NYT article) so that you can read it free of charge! that would be illegal and would benefit broke college students too much. it definitely does not do that. promise.

Thank you so much for supporting your local witch!
For those in the US asking “where can I buy good witchy books?” - this looks like an answer!
For those of us elsewhere in the world, I would recommend every book I’ve read off this list, and have heard great things about a bunch of the others, so I’m totally treating this as reading list inspiration! I wonder how many of them my libraries have…
My To Be Read just grew exponentially and I’m grateful for it
Sorry I know, me again. Most of money has gone to rent and my bills and I had to send money back to Mexico to my cousin with a new baby trying to find work there. Please I need an extra $20 to get groceries again for next week thank you!!

Hello there! I was recently approached and directed to begin work with the Witch Father. After doing some research on the various aspects of him, have identified him as The Faerie King. While I've lightly researched the fae/goodfolk before and had some interactions with them, I'm fairly new to working in their domain. Do you have any suggested resources to look into or advice before meeting him? Thank you! Your blog has been super helpful!
I’m sorry if my answer to this has come too late. I have had a lot on my plate. I will answer as best I can, though, all the same.
As far as resources go, some of the very best will simply cover things like local ecology, regional lore, and folk wisdom. However, here are some texts covering the topic of the Gloaming Folk that I can manage to think of at the moment:
‘The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns and Fairies’ by Reverend Robert Kirk
‘British Goblins’ by Wirt Sikes
‘The Encyclopedia of Fairies’ by Katherine Briggs
‘An Encyclopedia of Fairies: Hobgoblins, Brownies, Bogies, & Other Supernatural Creatures’ by Katherine Briggs
‘Fairy and Folktales of the Irish Peasantry’ by W. B. Yeats
‘The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries’ by W. Y. Evans-Wentz
‘Sounds of Infinity’ by Lee Morgan
‘Elves, Wights and Trolls’ by Kveldulfr Gundarson
‘The Fairy Mythology: Illustrative of the Romance and Superstition of Various Countries’ by Thomas Keightley
‘The Gaelic Otherworld’ by John Campbell
‘The Fairies in Tradition and Literature’ by Katherine Briggs
‘The Vanishing People: Fairy Lore and Legends’ by Katherine Briggs
‘The Fairy Family: A Series of Ballads & Metrical Tales Illustrating the Fairy Mythology of Europe’ by A. Maclaren
Based on the larger context of your question, regarding the Witch Father, it may also be worthwhile to look into some texts such as:
‘Call of the Horned Piper’ by Nigel Aldcroft Jackson
‘The Devils Dozen: Thirteen Craft Rites of the Old One’ by Gemma Gary
or the ‘Witchcraft in the British Isles’ series by Michael Howard
As far as advice goes;
Be sure, be ready, and be heedful.
“How can I understand myself? Why that blind conformity at first? And afterward, the near joy of liberation? Of what matter am I made in which elements and foundations for a thousand other lives mingle but never merge? I go down every path and still none is mine. I have been sculpted into so many statues and haven’t frozen into place.”
— Clarice Lispector, from “Obsession”, Collected Stories (trans. Katrina Dodson)

“Like everyone, she knew the stories of Helios’ temper when he was crossed. However gold he shines, do not forget his fire.”
Circe by Madeline Miller
"I swear in the name of The Mistress that I worship with pain and bitterness as my accomplice, in the name of Hekate for whom a great temple I keep deep within my fingernails; whoever crushed my heart, whoever made it hurt, will utterly regret it! And I shall give to them shining weddings, full of sorrow, for trying to cast me out of their lands"
Medea, Euripides, 1997 at the National Theatre of Greece
A forest knows things. They wire themselves up underground. There are brains down there, ones our own brains aren’t shaped to see. Root plasticity, solving problems and making decisions. Fungal synapses. What else do you want to call it? Link enough trees together, and a forest grows aware.
Richard Powers, The Overstory
“if you measure the length
of your ego,
it will equal
the distance between you
and your freedom…
honesty creates intimate connections
and decreases the turbulence of life
dishonesty creates distance and problems that have to be dealt with in the future
if we are

then we are
probably hurting”

“I have an academic industrial complex
yelling out
“Don’t eat shit”
while the tenured hands of the industry hold themselves up freely
to emphasize they are tied.”
“The animist wakes up in the morning, and makes note of the dream she just had. She looks at the events that happened in the Dreaming, and sees that there are some potential issues at play among the spirits that dwell in and around her house. She gets up, and makes coffee. She thanks the coffee for its tasty goodness, and the water for keeping her and the rest of the world alive. She talks a bit to the cat, and thanks the dogs for watching over her and the house during the night. When the coffee is finally done, she pours two cups, one larger and one smaller. To the smaller cup, she adds cinnamon, sugar and a touch of red pepper. She also pours cold water into a small bowl, to which she adds a few pinches of dried rose petals. She takes the smaller cup of coffee into the living room and places it on the mantle in front a turtle shell and a few stones. She speaks: "Spirits and allies who aid and guard me, I give thanks to you. I ask that you bless all who dwell in this house, and all the creatures with whom I share this land. Watch over all of us, and guide us to make the best use of our intentions, time, and energy. I thank you. May there be peace between us always." The animist then takes the bowl with the water and rose petals out the front door, through the yard, and out to the gate that leads to the street. Just inside the gate, she places the bowl of water on the ground, dipping her fingers into the bowl, and traces a sign upon the gate itself. She says: "Creature of iron, of discretion and discernment, I make this offering to you. May you be ever blessed for the work that you do, and may you always stand strong against those who would do us harm. Keep out all who wish us ill and only allow those who bring love and kindness to enter this space." She checks the lock on the gate, and returns inside the house to finish her own coffee. The animist lives in a spirit-filled and spirit-infused world.”
