A/N: I decided to tie Kensi and Deeksâ anniversary in with the upcoming episode, particularly the picture where theyâre laying down. As usual, itâs a little late and thereâs a small amount of angst and a fair amount of cheesiness. Happy Densi Wedding Anniversary!
âI canât believe weâve been married for 3 years,â Deeks murmured, trailing his fingers through Kensiâs hair. Theyâd cleared everything out of the spare bedroom aside from a small dresser. Tomorrow they planned to pick up a bed and some other furniture, but for now it was pretty empty.
Instead of going to their own bedroom, theyâd laid out a blanket and some pillows, deciding to camp out their for the time being. Maybe it was silly, but Deeks was reluctant to leave.
âShould have escaped when you had the chance,â Kensi teased, shifting her on their shared pillow. âNow youâre stuck with me forever.â
âAnd I wouldnât have it any other way.â
âReally?â She sounded at least slightly surprised. âYou wouldnât change anything about the last three years?â
âWell, I might have things go a little easier for us,â Deeks admitted. âMaybe a few less injuries, but otherwise? No. I think weâre exactly where weâre supposed to be.â
âIt does seem like things are finally coming together. The house is fixed up, weâre not in extreme debt, and,â she paused to inhale shallowly. âWeâre finally getting a foster placement.â
âYeah,â Deeks agreed, allowing a soft smile. âDo you think heâll like it?â He lifted his hand briefly to gesture at the walls, which theyâd repainted in a warm shade of blue. Theyâd also bought some galaxy themed decorations, but held off on applying them yet just in case.
âI think so.â She shrugged against his shoulder. âAnd we can change it if he doesnât.â They were silent for a minute, Kensiâs breath soft in his ear. âItâs kind of crazy to think about after all this time. It almost feels like a fantasy sometimes. Like maybe weâll wake up and realize it was just a dream.â
âI know what you mean. But this time itâs going to be different.â
âAnd if itâs not?â Kensi asked softly, doubt and refusal to hope in her voice. âThereâs no guarantee with foster kids.â
âHey, donât think like that,â Deeks said gently. âWeâre going to welcome Caleb into our home and yeah, at first itâs probably going to be weird and a little rough, but eventually, weâll all adapt. Weâll be a family. In a few months heâll be complaining that he hates peas and want to paint the walls black and join a hard metal band.â
Kensi snorted, successfully diverted from her woes.
âI think you might be confusing him with an angsty teenager, minus the peas part. That also was incredibly specific. Did you have another secret band you never told me about?â Kensi asked.
âNope. But I did ask my mom if I could get an earring,â Deeks told Kensi, which made her gasp. She briefly pushed herself up enough for him to see her look of disbelief.
âYouâre joking.â When Deeks shook his head, she laughed again. âSomehow I canât picture you with an earring.â
âOk, I was 13 and Ray convinced me that it would make us look cool to the girls we liked.â
Making a delighted sound now, Kensi lightly tapped his chest several times.
âOk, Iâm going to need pictures of this,â she decided. â I can just see you now with a little gold hoop. Like a 70s version of a pirate.â
âLuckily for me, there is no photographic evidence of that particular poor life choice because I never got around to mine. Since our moms said no, we decided to pierce our ears ourselves,â Deeks explained.
âAgain, completely spearheaded by Ray. He was acting all tough and told me to do his first. I got halfway through one ear, he saw blood, and passed out. Pretty sure thatâs when my slight fear of needles kicked in.â
âWell, letâs hope that all of that is several years away for Caleb,â Kensi said, resting her hand on his chest.
âOh god, weâll never make it,â he groaned. He laid his fingers over Kensiâs, smiling as he stared up at the ceiling. âAm I crazy if I say I canât wait?â
âNo, I was thinking the same thing.â
Brushing her hair back with his free hand, he leaned forward and kissed her softly, shifting to cup the back of her head.
âI love you, Kensi,â he murmured. âHappy Anniversary.â
âAnd to a thousand more,â Kensi added, curling into his chest. âI love you so much. And I love our life together.â
