i donât do too many character analyses, i mostly just call the atla fandom on its bullshit and bring some sort of rationality into discourse. this is a safespace for ALL characters, there will be no shipping discourse on here, there will be no âproâ âantiâ bs on here. Now just because I say no shipping discourse, doesnât mean I like every ship in the book so please donât come to me talking about certain ones.
if any of that is brought here, you will be blocked. no negotiation.

There is a two common traits I find within both Zuko antis and Zuko stans, and that is that they donât understand him, and they try to re-write him to fit their narrative of how they feel about him.
Zuko stans like him so much to the point where they actually hate him. And not in the sense like antis would, but in the âIâm going to get rid of all his negative, flawed traits, and rewrite them as something much more simple, fun, and cutesy!â way. They donât like who he actually is, and they stray away from talking about his real, non-whitewashed personality. Stans cannot easily decode him, and therefore water him down to a particular fandom trope, or just to something really fucking annoying. Like the whole awkward turtleduck situation.
Now Zuko antis often scream about the things that his stans do, and go right on to do the same thing; mischaracterize him because, again, they usually donât understand him. They take all his flawed, negative traits, and multiply them by ten. âOh I donât like this character and I also donât understand him so to me heâs narcissistic, weak, stupid, untalented, looking for sympathy.â They hate him so much to where they only water him down to his worse traits and scrutinize everything he does for the sake of their hatred. When he is in fact none of those things if you, I donât know, watch the show with your eyes open.
I saw your take on Zuko and like I agree so much. this fandom either idolises him or hates him and I always found that sooo weird. same goes with characters like Jet who are somehow treated like perfectly functioning adults by the fandom and held accountable of their actions as if they were grown men. and thatâs so freaking weird. the point of Zukoâs redemption arc is that his arc isnât linear, he makes mistakes, learns from it, makes up for it. as for Jet, although not a big fan of the way the writers handled his death, heâs literally being seen as an unredeemable monster, as if worse that characters like OZAI OR ZHAO by many fans and⌠just⌠how ?? why ?? they are both 16 ?? like yeah, they did so much bad stuff, they did really messed up stuff but they are also quite literally products of their environment and a freaking 100 years war. how is Zuko, fed with propaganda, on a ship since heâs 13, with a freaking general as his only paternal figure at that time, surrounded by men twice his age who are also either soldiers or at least army related, and still 16 at the time, suppose to be a ânice guyâ archetype that does nothing wrong. like please be for real one second. and donât get me started on Jet. whole village burned to the ground, orphan, had to raise so many kids, probably grew up in extreme poverty. ofc heâs messed up. ofc heâs violent, blinded by rage. but again, 16 !!! HEâS 16 !! it kills how people donât realise that teenagers (especially teenage boys) are anything but mature, collected and emotionally rational. like bfr.
but in the atla fandom ig saying this would make me a zuko/jet apologist. whatever that means. as an adult i just see a bunch of messed up kids in the middle of the war, and thatâs basically it. at best i feel bad for them, at worst i pity them.
Say it louder for the people in the back. I donât know how to dumb it down enough for people to wrap their damn head around how these are in fact, also, teenagers involved in war. The world is in shambles during war, right and wrong are easily blurred during those times, and it takes a very special person to be able to differentiate between the sides without getting too caught up in what they believe is right or wrong.
Zuko couldâve stayed a racist, imperialist, dipshit. But by the end of the show, he turns into just a simple dipshit who accepted his life changing 180 with open arms. Yes he said some insensitive shit to aang about his beliefs and mocked his anti-violent views even when he joined them in season 3, but AGAIN, not only was he still learning how to be a decent human being, he was also blinded by his own hatred of his father, mixed with the very much pro-violent nature of the fire nation, PLUS the lack of education on Aangâs culture and philosophy which was AGAIN, taught around PRO-PA-GAN-DA the FN created. All of which, takes time to unlearn. On top of figuring himself and who he was, which is what most teenagers, more often than not will have a whole crisis about ALONE. I honestly donât know how people expect a redemption arc to go, weâve all had to learn how to be better about things, and the progress isnât going to be liner nor will it always be easy. That is human nature. That is LIFE.
And on Jetâs case, why do people think itâs such a terrible thing to make some characters who were victims of war crimes, to be angry, to lust for revenge against the perpetrators, or be irrational and violent. THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO. The FN took the last bit of Jetâs life that he barely even had and stripped all of that completely away from him like the savages that they are. Why is it a terrible thing to be angry at people who didnât think twice about the families, the sense of community that his village had? I agree that Jet was going too far when he was trying to take it out on innocent people, but can you really blame him? He didnât have an adult to help him out on the importance of emotional maturity and how to be angry at the ones who actually harmed you like Zuko did, and even if he did, teenagers wonât be emotionally matured TRULY until they develop into adults. He had to be the mock adult for the kids younger than him, he didnât have time to decode himself and better his actions because he was too focused on protecting the freedom fighters and himself against the FNâs abuses.
People donât realize that this is not babying them, or being so called âapologistsâ this is called understanding why these two are the way that they are. Why are they like this? And itâs so much to take in and talk about at once that youâd need an entire college level essay to completely break down and comprehend how deep war can affect not just adults, but teenagers and children. Those two groups donât have true moral compasses, so the environment and circumstances can really impact and easily mold their minds to fit the standards in said situation in order to survive it. This is called self-preservation. A more than common trauma response.
I mean seriously, I heard someone say they can understand Zuko hate but not Iroh hate, when he has in fact, done much worse than Zuko has ever done in those 3 years at sea. I love Iroh, but heâs an adult, why are we choosing adults over traumatized and war-fed teenagers who mainly comply in that shit to seek approval from their actually psychotic, genocidal, narcissistic, and abusive father that would dispose of them if they didnât fit his standards? Why are we quicker to blame the teenagedvictim of the FNâs attacks and cruelty, than the actual people, adults, who conducted the attacks?
Are we truly regressing as a fandom? The show wouldnât give them their traumatic experiences and talk about their abusers if they wanted the viewer to antagonize the victims. Goes to show that the loudest voices screaming âirredeemable monsterâ and âthey want people to feel sorry for himâ never truly know who these characters are and how they operate, they need everything spoon fed to them which is very unfortunate. The real irredeemable monsters are right there in their face and they choose to look somewhere else.
Itâs so obvious how people in this fandom pick and choose who to feel sympathy for, when they all needed it.

Wait until yâall realize you donât have to hate anyone to not like a ship. I donât know why itâs a trend that you have to hate one character and praise the other, when you can just not like the idea of two people being together.
We need more fanart of adult Zuko being a literal fashion icon. I wanna see him blinged out, in overly expensive clothes, give his boots skinnier heels, need his hair to have bangs, I need him to have more FLAVOR.
All jokes aside, THE FIRE NATION HAS JET SKIS. WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS? I rewatched avatar not too long ago and I was genuinely baffled to see fucking jet skis.

Atp I have to just stop consuming atla fandom content for good because bitches are constantly arguing over the same four characters. Iâm trying to look at headcanons, fanart, and memes and then get hit with people in the tags gaslighting you into hating children JUST BECAUSE. Goes to show none of you deserve any of them actually!
âI donât like-â WE GET IT. For crying out loud thatâs all your content on your page has been about for the past two years!
You all lack basic human decency and respect over a bunch of pixels and will do anything just to defend and/or argue why your ship or these characters are better. Fuck ALL of you, the ones that are racist, ableist, sexist, misogynistic, and just weird as fuck over a CARTOON.
Fandom mischaracterization doesnât define who a character is, you donât have to consume hate content because when people choose to be ignorant, itâs often a permanent decision. People make bad takes of media all the time, once you learn how to block and move on then youâll find peace. Just enjoy your favorite character, itâs not hard.
Yeah, Zuko is just some asshole teenager not some deeply emotionally intelligent, noble hero.
He is isn't suddenly going to be the nicest guy ever because he is 'good' now. He took three years after he got his face burned off to work out that he didn't actually deserve it and people think that since he is 'good' he needs to be able to understand how abuse made Azula act the way she did. Like, Azula's treatment is even harder to clock as abuse (which it is) than Zuko's. He is not going to work that out quickly. He isn't going to stop being kinda a dick either. He is like 16 and has barely had a friend his whole life.
THANK YOU. YOU UNDERSTAND THAT TEENAGERS, ESPECIALLY ONES WHO DONâT HAVE MUCH SOCIAL EXPERIENCE ISNâT GOING TO JUST FIT INTO SOCIETY BY THE SNAP OF SOMEONEâS FINGER!
If this were the case for any other one of the child characters, then I would say the exact same thing, THEYâRE KIDS. And thatâs why this show is catered to children, some of them have social anxiety, autism, behavioral/violent emotional disorders that stunt them from being able to make friends and be ânormalâ and Zuko is a good representation for them so that they donât ever feel like theyâre weird for something they canât necessarily control, not that they really can anyway.

Yeah zukoâs a cunt, not only was he on the opposing side of the war for like the most part of his early life so he wouldnât immediately understand shit from a minorityâs perspective because he was so privileged, and also fed propaganda, but heâs also a 16 year old boy. Most teenaged boys are fucking cunts.
So when people are like *random screenshot of Zuko saying something mean/offensive* god heâs such an assholeâŚ*continues to state the obvious and bitch for another 300 words* itâs like no shit, thatâs literally the point of his character, why are you so shocked he said that? Stop being dense and understand that not only is his character used to show how redemption isnât linear, but itâs a kidâs show. With main characters that are nowhere near finished in their brain development.
Antis are so fucking insane like, this isnât a âwho had it worseâ competition, or âwhy i hate this character because of toxic *character/ship* stansâ. âwhoâs the most strongest bender/avatarâ âwhy these two look better togetherâ or âwhich child did the worst stuffâ None of these arguments fucking matter at the end of the day, and the fact that this is all you got from the show says you need to sniff yourself and contemplate on whether your ignorance is causing you to smell like the bottom of a septic tank. This is a show about war and how it affects all people and the world so negatively.
This is a show spreading awareness about genocide. This is a show about personal growth as a person and learning to redeem yourself. This is a show about how terrible countries use children as a means to fight/colonize places on their behalf. It shows how even the abused can become abusers, how childhood can truly affect the kind of person you are. How people really can bring the best out in others. How negativity can drown out the inner fire of your human spirit and progression. About how you too can contribute to the greater good no matter who you are or where you are from. It talks about how no one is perfect EVER, âperfectâ or âperfectionâ is a broke mindset created to distract us and keep us from accepting our beautiful and very humane differences as a society. That mistakes are part of the human experience, and the list goes on.
This show is about how good will always prevail over evil, though it may sound simplistic, it can be as complex as the universe itself.
Avatar is literally a timeless masterpiece, itâs so much for a kidâs television show, itâs not perfect AND THATâS OKAY. Itâs so much more than all the drama and discourse within it, all of it which is ultimately the most useless waste of words people can possible muster up on the platform. There are more tags of people shitting on the main seven who came together to actually save the world, than of the people who were clearly and outright on the opposing side of the conflict. Nothing that is mainly bickered about in this fanDUMB is ever worth arguing about, EVER.
