Remember in my other post when I said I don't like how Bryke uplift their air nomads characters by using their water tribe characters as stepping stool.
Yeah this is why, because I'm pretty sure if Bryke not only acknowledged their flaws but didn't normalise it, people wouldn't argue this. If there was no war Hakoda would have been there, there was no war for Aang but he didn't prioritise his kids.
I've seen people in their comments argue that he needed to focus on restoring his culture by only giving Tenzin attention, but if he can take the time to teach air acolytes, he can take the time to teach his biological kids about their culture.
I've called out the whole "people tried to reach out to Azula, she rejected them" thing as absolutely ridiculous due to the fact that no such scene exists. The only time it's brought up has Iroh call her crazy.
But also, the idea of rejecting a helping hand is true...for Zuko. Aang, Katara, Iroh, they all offer him a chance at redemption and he brutally denies them every time. When he actually redeems himself, he and he alone chooses that.
So the idea of Azula rejecting redemption making her irredeemable is not only stupid but objectively wrong.
Why do people always play zero-sum games with Zuko and Azula?
Like seriously, the both of them were abused, end of story. Just in different ways. Ursa neglected Azula in favour of Zuko and treated her like a monster because she was scared for Azula and knew Ozai would have influence over her the minute she showed to be a prodigy. Zuko was mentally and PHYSICALLY abused by Ozai even before he was burned and was constantly told he was worthless and deserved to die. The reason Zuko didn't end up like Azula isn't because he had it easier, it's because Iroh was there after his banishment to support him, if he wasn't then Zuko would end up exactly like Azula and that's the point isn't it? If Zuko was left in charge of a ship as a royal who sees everyone around him as lesser then he would've developed the same superiority complex as Azula's but would've spiraled faster because he didn't have a Mai and Ty Lee to hold him back. Mai and Ty Lee were the closest things Azula had to an Iroh and she spiraled the minute she lost them.
They're both traumatised and abused kids but we should stop saying who had it worse, they were in the same situation.
Also, STOP WITH THE INCEST THEORIES. AZULA NEVER TRIED TO SEDUCE ZUKO YOU F*CKING CREEPS! ZUKO HAD HIS DAUGHTER WITH MAI, NOT AZULA, SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!
The hate Zutara gets is so vastly disproportionate to how their dynamic is written in canon that it genuinely confuses me. I like āproblematicā ships as much as the next person but this is a super milquetoast E2L pairing where both characters ended the show as close friends and somehow itās still the Most Toxic Ship Ever. I have a ship from another fandom where one of the dudes literally shot the other with a gun in the final episode but nobody gets mad at me for shipping THAT the way they do with Zutara.

Iām sorry, WHAT?
The original show literally set the standard for strong female leads in 2000s western animation. I canāt think of a single character whoās improved in this remake.
Katara in particular has it the WORST, she loses her passion, her outspokenness, her strength. The Painted Lady, one of the best episodes showcasing Kataraās determination and compassion is reduced to a Painted Lady x Blue Spirit AO3 Zuko glaze.
Even characters like Suki and Mai get it rough. Gone is Suki standing her ground against Sokkaās sexism, with that aspect gone, sheās just thirsty for the guy for no reason, and Mai straight up has no problem ratting out, betraying or even killing those close to her, she tries to KILL Ty-Lee because Azula told her too, which Ty-Lee returns. WTF is this showās problem.
To mention some other points, Jet was never treated as an irredeemable monster in the original show, in Book 2, he actively tries to amend his ways and dies helping the Gaang, tragically killed by the nation he defended, but here he just dies in the Library.
And donāt get me started on Aang, first off, he never saw Katara as a āprizeā in the original show, second he has TWO moments where he ācrashes outā, the first because he just lost Appa, the second because heās burdened with having to kill a guy, which no one understands. In the first case he clearly realized he was out of line by the end of the episode, and the second he leaves the group so he can calm down.
In addition to being an incredibly watered down train-wreck of an adaptation, lacking the flaws, faults and growth that made Aang compelling (such is his initially running away, or visiting the Guru) along with being WAY to serious, this Aang straight up agrees with Pakku that Katara SHOULDNāT fight and chastises Katara for wanting to help others as the Painted Lady, when the original Aang was nothing but supportive.
Lastly, removing scenes like this is just a disservice to the show and really sums up a major problems with this remake, it takes away the depth of BOTH Aang and Katara. This highlights how deep Aangās grief is, he tries to keep a positive attitude and remain positive, but heāll always have that trauma an emotional baggage of being a genocide survivor, and Katara emphasizes with this, she isnāt afraid, she isnāt under any obligation, sheāll literally put herself in danger to support a friend because her compassion is her strength.
No disrespect to OP, but the tags really say it allā¦
They donāt care about the original show, they donāt care about good writing or three-dimensional characters, or genuinely well-written strong female characters, itās all about the shipping and the Zuko glazing and the Blue Spirit x Painted Lady AO3 fic they wormed into this show.
I genuinely cannot understand how anyone would prefer this remake over the original, itās worse in literally every way. Thatās not even getting into the pacing, story elements that make no sense, annoying cliches, that awful climax where Aang in the Avatar State chokes Azula, almost beating her and Azula only wins because Aang stops and shows mercy.
This remake sucks.
Genuinely I think that a bunch of people in the atla fandom haven't actually seen the show since they were kids and have been mostly experiencing it in curated clips and edits or even fanworks. And yet they confidently voice their takes and opinions with nothing to back it up.
āKatara would hate that Aang gave up the Avatar State for herā
OH REALLY?
The same Katara who was ecstatic that Aang came to save her and had faith that he would come
The same Katara who in tears and heartbroken because Aang literally left her in āThe Awakeningā because he felt that it was his duty to save the world by himself?
They want Katara to hate Aang so badly, because THEY hate Aang for not just letting go of his feelings and ignoring his vision of the girl he cares about in danger, and getting in the way of their fan-ship
I mean, the tags say it all, why do I always see Zutara, Anti-Kataang and Anti-Aang of all things in the Pro-Katara tag? Why do they only see Kataraās worth in the guy she ends up with?
Slander Kataraās true soulmate isnāt gonna change anything. Katara would hate yāall
