another baby bird in my car.
Maybe i can pick your brain on a bird situation where we live. We have few baby seagulls that have been kicked from the nest already around our area. It's only going to get worse and no wildlife rescues will take any, even though they are the seagulls that are supposedly threatened.
This is in benton harbor michigan. Do you have any suggestions of what i can do to help, or who i could reach out to for the very young ones?
So, I don't know a lot about gulls. But gull babies seem to be precocial, meaning they're able to waddle around and pick up food soon after they hatch. If they're nesting in a dangerous location such as the median strip of a highway, a bear enclosure, a minefield, etc, this can be a real problem, because they're a lot more mobile than altricial (naked and helpless) baby birds and can get themselves into a lot more trouble.
It's almost always best to leave chicks with their parents whenever possible, but if you find that they are nesting in really problematic locations, you might be able to put up some signs or barricades to prevent people from messing with them.
Animal Help Now (https://ahnow.org) lists a few rehabilitators and offices who you might be able to call for advice, but it does seem like there aren't many in your area. Hopefully at least DNR can advise you if a rehabber can't.
Gulls nest on the ground, and the chicks start toddling away from the nest and roaming around long before fledging. I wouldn’t worry if they aren’t in immediate danger and the parents are still around and feeding them.
I would avoid approaching the chicks too closely and back off IMMEDIATELY if you get yelled at by an adult gull, they will divebomb humans to protect their young.

went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning

when i was 10 same sex marriage was legalised in england and wales. that summer i went to so many weddings. there were weeks i went to a wedding every single day, some days we had to choose which wedding to go to. i loved it cuz i got to dress up and hang out w a bunch of happy ppl and eat food and dance. when i see that quote abt how gay ppl during the aids crisis had to choose between funerals it reminds me of that summer. of how far weve come and how far we still have to go. hiv is now controllable with a pill once a day. only 6 ppl have ever been cured of aids. the uk wasnt hit nearly as hard by hiv/aids as other countries like it, partly cuz of a massive public information campaign. 20,000 ppl still died. i went to so many 10 year anniversary parties last year.

I finally watched Project Hail Mary, it’s really good! Eva reminds me a lot of Marco (Animorphs), which definitely biased me towards her.
Cotton-top tamarins always seem to be really interested in my masks, even at different facilities. I’m sure it’s because most places have keepers masking around primates still and not because I’m a marmoset magnet. One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.
The eye doctor is the most fun doctor you can go to. They never steal your blood. They never make you get naked and put on a paper dress. They're just like, "Can you see these letters? It's fine if you can't, we can fix that." And they don't even spell anything.
Every time I go they put me in a chair and they say look into this machine there's a hot air balloon or a farmhouse in there and I do and I'm like you're right I see it and they're like yeah keep admiring that hot air balloon or farmhouse and I do and I'm like this shit's quaint as fuck and then do you know what happens next they attack me they jumpscare me with air directly into my eyeballs and i fall out the chair and they say sorryyyy but they're NOT they wanted this to happen they KNEW about the jumpscare well now I'm wise to it now I know better when I go in and they say look at this bodacious hot air balloon I'm like NO WAY DUDE that balloon wishes me harm have at thee and I attack them and push them on the ground and spit on them

it shimmers like no gemstones i've ever seen: green as malachite and emerald but shot through with opal, gold, copper. photographs can't do it justice because of how it shines, as well as the way the actual material elements have their own dimensions. you can lean in and study all the fine lines of the circuits or step back and admire how the rearranged whole forms new patterns. it's one of the most beautiful creations i've ever seen.
