What if, if I wanted to write a Kataang one/two-shot which one would y’all be more interested in?:

episodes like the waterbending scroll, jet, the waterbending master, the siege of north, the puppetmaster, the southern raiders, the painted lady.. those are katara centric episodes to some degree. the writers pull out katara’s traits like her hopeful idealism/traumatic hatred and push it forward into the narrative so people can better understand her character. but of course almost half of these episodes just end up mentioned in “is zuko/aang the better boyfriend for katara?” essays.

if your defense of katara consistently depends on which boy she should be with, then you're potentially missing the character you're claiming to defend. a lot of people in this fandom call themselves “katara lovers & defenders” while spouting the most anti-indigenous, misogynistic and disgusting bullshit about her under the disguise of supposed help. her character worth doesn't lessen or upgrade based on her relationship status like are you people ok

The Southern Raiders is not a Kataang or Zvtara episode. It is a Katara episode.

It is an episode where Katara deals with her complicated feelings regarding her mother's death, her guilt and how she feels like she was partly responsible for it. How the anger she had inside her since the day her mother died almost consumed her but she still came out of it better than the asshole who killed her mother. How she decided she doesn't have to forgive and forget her mother's killer to find her peace and how that asshole didn't deserve a minute of her time.

Reducing that episode to shipping wars and her relationship with her male friends is misogynistic as fuck. She's so much more than the boys she is surrounded by, and if you watch that episode and go, 'SEE, here's why she should be with X instead of Y', I WILL throw hands.

I'm tired of seeing the usual "All this to be known as just a healer".

She's not just a healer. She's THE greatest healer of all time. Like, that is a big achievement, stop trying to downplay it because it doesn't fit your ideal version of her.

Yeah, I know she got angry when Pakku told her to go practice healing with the other girls and women, but that is not because she hates healing. It's because she doesn't want him to tell her what she can and can't do.

She doesn't hate the art. She hates being restricted to just that.

Like, healers are doctors. Aang wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for her healing abilities. They also directly say that only the great water benders have healing abilities in the episode Aang accidentally burns Katara's hands.

And Katara has always helped people before she fought someone. The first thing she did after donning the name of The Painted Lady was to HEAL the sick and provide them food. She didn’t even think of fighting the Fire Nation soldiers until Sokka suggested it.

At this point, it's not the shows, or the movie reducing her character. It's you all.
