Image description: A white 3M Aura respirator mask on a blue gradient background. Above is the heading text, "You don't have to keep getting re-infected getting sick." Body text, "Each re-infection makes it worse and higher risk of long Covid. Do not count on a Covid infection to give you immunity for any length of time since it is always creating new variants. Covid actually damages your immune system." Bottom text "Start wearing a respirator mask now toavoid getting it again."
I encourage everyone to keep an eye on wastewater readings in their area to have a sense of what COVID transmission is like locally. Where I am, fortunately community transmission is incredibly low right now. I realise it won't be that low forever, and in the autumn when the schools go back and community transmission of other airborne infections increases, I'll need to get stricter with myself again. (Lately, it's been a struggle to function outdoors in the heat even without a mask, which has limited socialising anyway.)
I would also suggest that, as mask prices tend to fluctuate with demand, now is probably a very good time for many of us to restock. But if affording masks is a concern for you, here's a worldwide directory of local mask blocs providing free masks. You can also access COVID tests and other equipment this way: https://maskbloc.org/
If you're looking for a way to get involved in mutual aid, mask blocs are a great way to do it. We all need a bit of encouragement sometimes, and in my experience joining in with community initiatives, whether you're donating or doing something more hands-on, is a really good way to recalibrate after you've spent hours absorbing news that makes society seem like an entirely frightening, heartless place.
