Five Fics Tag Game

Thanks for the tag @pippinoftheshire!! I am always down for some fic self love.

Rules: list five fics you have written that you are currently very proud of

High Ticket Attractions (RWRB, E, 40k). A deeply personal fic for me, one where I had to balance the science and the romance, the new stuff and a classic movie. Also someone told me they went to the natural history museum because of it and I am very proud of that.

The End of the End (We Live Again) (RWRB, E, 26k). Time loop fics are always tricky, based off a movie, and then I decided to also make it a spy fic... there was a lot going on in this one but I'm proud of how it turned out.

Future Starts Slow (TMFU, E, 26k). This was the biggest tmfu fic I'd tackled in a while, and it was so nice to stretch in this universe again. Not to mention I loved writing the boys older, with everything that comes with it.

It's a Crime (to Fall in Love) (RWRB, E, 52k). Planning a murder mystery is HARD, yo. This fic gave me such a deep respect for people who write these kind of mysteries all the time.

Body and Soul(mate) (RWRB, E, 39k). Been thinking about this fic a lot because I'm going to steal chunks of it for an original novel lol. It took me a while to figure out how this world would work and was so satisfying when I finally did.

First of all , reading "High Ticket Attractions is now complete" was a highlight of my day 😀😀😀.. I don't read WIPs as I'm just too impatient to see what's next (but of course totalling respecting that authors will post at their own chosen pace)... Second of all ,you know "The Land Before Time"!!!! That is one of my fav cartoons growing up!! I bought a brachiosaurus plush and named it Little Foot!!

A bit of funny trivia about The Land Before Time reference is that as I was writing that part, my impulse was to have them talk about a foundational dinosaur movie, one that deeply affected pretty much every paleontologist of my generation and those afterward... Jurassic Park. But of course that movie cannot exist in this universe lol. Hence, we got The Land Before Time instead!

Ok, I can’t know for sure since this is the first time we’re actually witnessing Tyrannosaurus behaviour, but I can just tell, you know?” he says with an emphatic gesture. “What they’re doing has all the hallmarks of mating behaviour. I’m certain that if we gave them an egg, they’d raise it together.” “So, what you’re telling me is that my family has unwittingly created a lesbian dinosaur utopia.” “I mean… yeah, you could certainly put it that way,” Alex allows. Henry laughs, practically giddy. “I think that may be the best thing I’ve heard all year.”

(After spending too many years writing internal memos, Henry's looking forward to his new assignment: writing educational materials for an unprecedented theme park that promises to change the world. He's also not complaining about the fact that he'll have to work in close proximity to the park's scorching hot chief paleontologist, Dr. Alex Claremont-Diaz. After a rocky start, they find common ground and a successful partnership in helping protect the park's residents—until an unexpected tropical storm and a security shutdown leaves them fighting for their lives.)

Here it is, the last WIP Weds for High Ticket Attractions! And possibly my last one for a while depending on how inspired I get to share bits of the novel. We'll see lol. But I'm getting ahead of myself. First! The final chapter!

Moving slowly, he raises an arm to Alex’s shoulder. “Alex,” he whispers, even though there’s no way the Dakotas could hear them. And yet, every instinct in him is screaming to not draw any attention to himself. “Wake up.” Alex mumbles something unintelligible, and Henry claps his hand over Alex’s mouth. That rouses him rather quickly, his knitted eyebrows confirming the frown that Henry can feel under his palm. “They’re here,” he hisses, looking pointedly toward the hidden Dakota. It takes Alex a second to spot her, but when he does his eyes go wide. Henry removes his hand. “But they can’t see us in here, can they?” “I mean…” Alex murmurs back, which is not a good sign. “We haven’t been able to test the full spectrum of their vision. Or their other sensory systems, for that matter. We don’t really know what they’re capable of.” “Fantastic,” Henry groans.

Alex Claremont-Diaz is arguably the most skilled pediatric trauma surgeon Henry has ever worked with.

He’s also kind to their patients. Henry’s seen him squeeze a child’s hand while wheeling the bed off to pre-op, or kneel on the floor next to the family after a long and futile resuscitation. He’s always respectful toward Henry’s team, and he always returns to debrief with them after he’s through with each case in the OR.

And now Alex is here, standing in front of Henry’s workstation, in a pair of salmon scrubs that look tailor-made for his body, somehow. It’s really rather obscene, the fabric hugging his chest just-so, the deep vee, the faint hint of dark hair, and it’s all quite a lot, frankly, for Henry to be faced with at half-three in the morning.

“Dr. Claremont-Diaz,” says Henry, making a point to barely glance up from his computer. “I wasn’t aware we had a trauma coming.”

“We don’t,” shrugs Alex. “I was just bored.”

This has reminded me (by bringing me back into my tumblr inbox lol) that I had another ask on these same lines, firstprince as Bronco/Sid. Apologies to the previous anon!

It does lend itself pretty well to the setup—the Brit and the American, the flirting, the banter. For the "Rachel" role, come along with me here: Zahra. I can just SEE her picking up these two guys out a prison where they've managed to get themselves locked up because they got into trouble. Plus, even if she's not canonically a lawyer, I can definitely see her as a kind of fixer. Nora could easily be on the team as a hacker. I can even see Pez working with them because he can talk his way into anything.

As far as a fic goes, there's probably no danger of that happen any time soon, sadly. I have a few other wips I would do first (orchestra, pool players, and adding to my existing spy series), but I'm actually taking a bit of a pause on fic to hopefully make some progress on pulling my original novel project together. But I appreciate you thinking of me, it would be very fun!

There's something about how in the book, Alex and Henry both long so deeply for home. Alex ruminates and misses Texas, and Henry is stuck in a big palace that isn't quite him, always looking up at the stars because it reminds him of his dad (home) and it reminds him of how things were.

The fact that they both find a home in each other is peak romance and I get a little weak every time I think about that.

Is Henry having thick thighs canon? Most fics I've read Alex is obsessed with Henry's thighs and I find it hilarious that Nick indeed has thick eyes and Taylor indeed has long eyelashes (which is Alex canon) 🤣🤣

This is cracking me up, I am honored that you came into my ask box for input on this very important question. The short answer is: yes, Henry's thick thighs are book canon! Alex mentions "the power of his thighs" as a distinct turn on while watching Henry play polo in Connecticut, but the main clincher line is this one:

He feels Henry's thighs—those goddamn horseback-riding, polo-playing thighs—moving around him... (Red, White and Royal Blue, chapter 7)

The thing about horseback riding is that 90% of your control comes from your "seat", i.e., your legs and thighs, so they have to be very muscular and well developed. This is especially true in disciplines like polo, where you have to lean down with a mallet to hit the ball, where you only have one hand on the reins. Your ability to direct your horse and stay on comes pretty much entirely from your thighs. Polo players have thighs of STEEL.

So yes, there is textual evidence for Alex's obsession with Henry's thighs. God bless.
