I would like every transmed to know they are wrong.
Non-dysphoric trans people are trans, and they can go on hrt. It will not "prove you're actually cis" or "cause dysphoria". It has only made me happy.
I have to shave twice a week now. If I was a cis woman who cared about facial hair, I think I'd be pretty upset about this change, but I'm not. I love it.
can i ask what it’s like being a trans person without dysphoria? i’m a trans man who was diagnosed with gender dysphoria so my experience was struggling and suffering as my birth gender, and not being able to feel like myself any other way than as a male. i’m genuinely curious what your experience is like!
So the easiest way I can explain it is with a number line:
Yes, I made this in Excel. THIS IS EXTREMELY SIMPLIFIED. If anyone dislikes how I have portrayed dysphoria/neutrality/euphoria on this graph, make your own graph!
Anyway - what you can see is that how a person feels about their body can vary greatly, all the way from severely dysphoric (-10) up to euphoric (+10). A "non dysphoric" trans person might place themself anywhere on this number line from 0 on upwards; a dysphoric trans person would place themself at or below 0.
The point of transitioning is to become happier with your body. You do not have to start at -10 to want to feel better about your body.
So I personally was around a 1-2 on good days, a 0 on others. I could see that my body was aesthetically pleasing, it looked the way a "pretty" female body ought to look, and I was able to find outfits that make me feel good about myself. But the longer I thought about it, the more I felt myself yearning to become more masculine and to present more as a man.
Clothing was not enough; I was butch for a few years as I worked on discovering myself, and decided I wanted to try out T. I went on a low dose of T for a few months just to see if the baby steps of masculinization felt good, and that way if I absolutely hated it, I could stop before anything drastic happened.
I got a tiny bit of a voice drop, I got a tiny bit of body hair, and that was it - but those two things alone made me feel excited for the prospect of more. So I upped my dose after a few months, and started getting some fast changes, some drastic changes, and I loved them!! More facial hair! Side burns! Bottom growth! And boy howdy, major voice drop!
Feeling excited, happy, and giddy in my body is what I call gender euphoria. I wasn't feeling that before. Now I look down and see leg hair and stomach hair and I love it; I hear my voice and sing and I love it, I shave my face and I love it.
Like I saw someone else say, "You don't have to be starving to death to want to eat a cheeseburger". You don't have to feel like your body is a prison to want to spruce the place up.
AND in before "well non dysphoric people should stop stealing resources from dysphoric people, we'll die without this stuff."
Your state or country being transphobic is what is causing the "shortage" in HRT or surgery access, not other trans people. Non dysphoric trans people are not stealing anything from you, and it's ridiculous you'd even get that thought in your head instead of blaming your local government.
