read an AITA earlier today about a guy who would walk his female friend home to her dorm very often UNTIL she rejected his romantic advances*, then when she asks him to walk her home bc she's drunk and feels unsafe he says no. Men in the comments were clamoring to insist he "didn't owe her anything" and that she was a deceptive harpy who wanted to use her #femaleprivilege to get "special treatment"

and idkkkkkkk that could never be me sorry!! wym you don't care about your friends safety and are willing to mildly inconvenience yourself to ensure they are okay? no compassion or care for the people in your life but its an "epidemic" when you don't have friends? lol

we need to have a conversation about how the "everyone is 12" theory of politics now doesn't only apply to conservative men who want to kick the bad guys' asses and then go home and eat a steak their bangmommy made just for them (NO VEGGIES!!!) but also to adult women who are literally afraid of other people having sex and being sexy. it's like there's been this massive regression among women in their 20s where we've gotten rid of feminism and replaced it with a new form of purity politics that requires never saying anything bad about another women unless you find a new and creative way to call her a whore. the misuse of "she caters to the male gaze" as a new form of enlightened slut shaming, labeling any woman who wears a short skirt or has sex with a man as "not a girls' girl" and "a pick me," the intense overreaction to celebrity affairs or even just shit like the summer house mess where a woman is now dating another woman's ex even though there was no overlap and the "relationship" was just kind of a situationship that fizzled but now these little girls are online demanding both people involved in the new relationship lose their jobs and not get any brand deals, the panic over mildly sexual content in literally any capacity like ads or an instagram post in a crop top, the compulsion to link everything back to the epstein files, the monthly meltdown over sex scenes on tv and in movies. everyone is 12 and AFRAID of sabrina carpenter.

Even lefties I know will eventually concede to some situation where they think it’s right to force someone to carry a child against their will as if that’s not one of the most inhumane and cruel situations to put someone in regardless of any other factors

So many people forget the baseline argument for abortion: bodily autonomy. You are legally protected from having to donate blood or a kidney or anything else if someone needs it and you are a match to be a donor because doing any of that can cause harm, distress and/or undue suffering and/or permanent disability after the fact. You are protected from being forced to give lifesaving treatment of your own flesh and blood because it is your body. And you get to say how you give of it.

It is the same principle with abortion. Regardless of when life starts, regardless of reasoning, if you do not wish to give of your life to sustain another one, then it is your right to your bodily autonomy, it is your right to protect yourself from harm that you do not willingly and continually consent to. If you do not wish to be pregnant, no one should be legally allowed to force you to carry it.

I think part of the inherent horror of the train is that it truly does not care the age of its passengers. It will literally take anyone.

We see lots of teens, of course, like Jesse and Tulip

We see young adults like Ryan and Min

But we also see the show repeatedly hammer in the fact that the train isn’t afraid to take extremely young children, children who could (and do!) spend the bulk of their formative years on the train. Which is genuinely horrific if you think about it more than 5 seconds. These kids likely have families desperately searching for them and are going to be forever altered by having some of their most critical years on the train. Book 3 perfectly shows how terribly wrong that can go.

But it doesn’t even stop there!! We see snippets that the train will take parents and the elderly too. Like I wouldn't be surprised if some of the on train deaths were old age or more "natural" causes than something like Simon's death.

I just think part of what makes the train so inherently terrifying is how little it matters how old you are, what you're doing, who you are. If the train deems you need to get it together, it'll come for you regardless.

honestly i think the reason why it’s so common for kids to have the “it’s not a phase, mom” argument in their adolescence is less because they genuinely plan for their current state of being to remain utterly unchanged forever and more because they’re tired of having their interests/self expression/beliefs/etc dismissed as foolish due to being probably temporary

i know that when i was that age i certainly wasn’t thinking about whether or not i’d be into whatever shit i was into then when i was 80, all i knew was that i was sick of feeling like the adults in my life were just rolling their eyes and waiting out everything that was important to me at that moment

I think another key thing conveyed by "it's not a phase" is that you won't return to being what they expect. Not necessarily that you're going to be This exact way forever, but that the next thing after STILL isn't gonna be the mold they're trying to put you in.

Whether or not being goth or w/e is a phase, *being your own person with your own priorities and interests* is NOT a phase, and that's what really rankles for people to not get.
