I know people on tumblr looove stories of underwater cave diving, but I haven't seen anyone talk about nitrogen narcosis aka "raptures of the deep"
basically when you want to get your advanced scuba certification (allowing you to go more than 60 feet deep) you have to undergo a very specific test: your instructor takes you down past the 60+ foot threshold, and she brings a little underwater white board with her.
she writes a very basic math problem on that board. 6 + 15. she shows it to you, and you have to solve it.
if you can solve it, you're good. that is the hardest part of the test.
because here's what happens: there is a subset of people, and we have no real idea why this happens only to them, who lose their minds at depth. they're not dying, they're not running out of oxygen, they just completely lose their sense of identity when deep in the sea.
a woman on a dive my instructor led once vanished during the course of the excursion. they were diving near this dropoff point, beyond which the depth exceeded 60 feet and he'd told them not to go down that way. the instructor made his way over to look for her and found a guy sitting at the edge of the dropoff (an underwater cliff situation) just staring down into the dark. the guy is okay, but he's at the threshold, spacing out, and mentally difficult to reach. they try to communicate, and finally the guy just points down into the dark, knowing he can't go down there, but he saw the woman go.
instructor is deep water certified and he goes down. he shines his light into the dark, down onto the seafloor which is at 90 feet below the surface. he sees the woman, her arms locked to her sides, moving like a fish, swimming furiously in circles in the pitch black.
she is hard to catch but he stops her and checks her remaining oxygen: she is almost out, on account of swimming a marathon for absolutely no reason. he is able to drag her back up, get her to a stable depth to decompress, and bring her to the surface safely.
when their masks are off and he finally asks her what happened, and why was she swimming like that, she says she fully, 100% believed she was a mermaid, had always been a mermaid, and something was hunting her in the dark 👍
The ocean is scary.

Here's my interpretation on what's going on
everyone shut da fuck up this is the only thing that matters
Oh My God Damn
I guess not all of them are cute. 🫂
One of the most frightening things I've ever heard is when somebody pointed out that the existence of flinching away when you touch something hot implies that at some point there was an evolutionary reason to be afraid of scary fire monsters that attacked people 😨

"There's millions of Tumblr users" to you. To me There's only about 12 and we all reblog the same five posts from each other
Tried looking up what noises foxes make and the first video I found was very unhelpful
They sound like a woman desperately screaming for help.
Any relationship advice?
Yeah, my old-ass grandma always told me that soup on a Saturday guarantees you a kiss on Sunday. I honestly don't know what the fuck she means though.
Means soup is good
Sure, but why is there a day buffer period between the soup and the kiss? Does it only work on weekends? Also why only soup? When you really sit down and think about it, there are a lot of holes in her argument.
This has always worked for me. Soup Sunday= smooch Saturday
Tomodachi life save me

✨Rant post ✨
I am born and raised in Austin Tx. I work as a hair stylist and I get a lot of clients who are from California. A lot of people say that they are ruining Austin but when you talk to these people it feels like they really needed to help. One of my clients raved about HEB and how kind everyone is in general but especially when driving . People have talked about how it's more relaxed here and that there is more color as well. Not to mention, the price of living is lower. I don't think I've ever been mad at it an individual person from California coming here they're doing what's best for them. They needed some southern hospitality!
HOWEVER! I can say it is frustrating that California isn't taking care of its people. With the influx of people from another state It is making it more expensive in Austin not to mention the culture shift (some of my clients didn't know Austin used to be a small hippie town). The rapid growth has made traffic worse (better than LA though) And it feels like well forever be in a drought because water supply simply cannot keep up with the growth of the city.
If you are from California and you are moving to Austin I have some simple requests for you. Be respectful towards the locals. I don't necessarily mean the people but the nature. If I see one person from California litter it's on site! Shop local! A lot of people from California coming to Austin have more money than the average person living here (from my understanding) help about our local economy by shopping with local businesses. We have a lot of funky shops lol. Let's work on your driving... I know we are not grate at it either but you can be aggressive and let people in (locals might like you more if you stop cutting them off). Remember it's not a race. And lastly, most importantly, be a little weird (or a lot weird) don't be afraid to wear something funky I promise that used to be the norm. You can really be whoever you want to be here.
I know Texas isn't perfect but I think Austin is as close as you can get to that. Let's strive to keep it like that. And a big thank you to everyone from California who have given my city so many compliments. It makes me really proud to be from my little home town Austin Tx 🤠
