Slept for more than 12 hours and didn't pack shit. Tired and sad and tired also
side benefit of communal all-gender restrooms is that they may be our best chance to shame cis men into washing their hands
Question: Why do people get bit by seemingly friendly raccoons? Answer: Here is food → oooh thank you now I beg→ ooh cute have more food → thank you now i will beg more → ooh so cute I will pet you → I am literally going to fucking kill you for reaching out with a food free hand. You are a disgrace. Dont fucking do that to me. I hate you I hate you I am going to go dig in the trash where I know there is food.
Genuine question: do you think raccoons are good enough at human body language to recognize when a hand is reached with the purpose of touching vs. giving them something? Obviously an empty hand is a very big hint that something is Wrong, but as raccoons are very smart, I wonder if they also recognize an intention to touch? If I came over for some food and someone tried touching me I would also react with violence, that is a threat.
Edit: i suppose an empty hand could be viewed as a threat all on its own. A big emough diversion from expectation that, when involving a creature many times larger, is dangerous enough to justify a fight (or a flight, but those don't make stories)
They are. Habituated wild ones just literally do not care. They do not see humans as valuable for anything other than food. They bite because they are frustrated and want to show you how they feel about you reaching out without food.
My own raccoons know the difference between hand for pets and hand with food. To them, pets are valuable because they love me and I love them.
I see. That's very interesting, thank you for answering!
Cloak off update!
As i decided in the comments of this post, the whole fabric situation done became different now. The main fabric is gonna be linen, and I'll have a bunch of different removeable linings, including the originally planned thin cotton, wool, as well as a flannel I found in my stash (huge and lucky and awesome). I will not be making all the linings now.
I found a really nice looking linen/cotton blend that was a decent price AND on sale, so I ordered like, a bunch extra. It's so pretty, and 65% linen and it was too good of a deal. I'm gonna make some really nice shirts and trousers with it, as well as the cloak (it's so nice for the cloak, the weaving pattern is so pretty). Very excited about it genuinely.
I got to go see the woolen fabrics I found online today, now planned for one of the linings. I found one of them quite satisfactory. It's thick and not too scratchy. I was already planing on putting some softer fabric around the neck for this one, so I'm not so worried about the texture. It felt nice against the back of my arm, which is the important part. The color is sooo pretty. It's a medium-dark muted blue, it's really lovely. Kind of really makes me want to make the body of the cloak a warm yellow for this combo specifically. I love blue and yellow together.
The store I got it from was so amazing also, and not too far from where i'm moving to, though not very cheap. Rad and awesome, honestly. I took a card.
This is about as much as I'll be able to do this week, probably. I NEED to get my stuff packed and cleared from the cabinets. I'm moving them next sunday, so... 4 days to get that done basically. I'll try and see what smaller quicker things I can get done for this project (draft out the neck and shoulder area, for example), but any big progress will be waiting.
List of cloak things to do:
- finish packing
- draft neckline+shouler darts
- decide cutting layout
- plan buttonhole tape and buttons
- rip old shirts for fabric, check if there is enough (yikes)
- figure out how gores work? (Felled seams w gores??? How???)
- pre-wash linen when it arrives
- test wool for washing/felting (DOES it need to be hand washed)
- please finish packing

Lost Kin is satisfying my very good very fun fight needs. Such a fantastic fight wow
Lost Kin was SO MUCH FUN. I did end up using Defender's Crest which solved just about every problem I had with the fight. (Spoilers) Our dear sibling is free of their dreams now.

Heartbreaking: saw someone with a cool shirt but their headphones prevented them from hearing me tell them it's awesome

I literally do not like summer why does it have to be so hot
As a new weaver i find that warp speed is in fact not very fast
That largely depends on the shuttle you're using.

alas the melancholy, it strikes at my heart! prithee, humble tumblr toiler, share with me your most superior cephalopod fact
Male octopus get eaten a lot while reproducing so they usually develop a survival strategy. My favorites are they're usually in a position where they can get out fast or they remove their reproductive arm and give it to the females which they can still use and honestly is more beneficial as they can use it when they find somewhere safe for eggs.

The blanket octopus has some of the most extreme size differences between males and females, with females reaching 2 meters (6.6 ft) and males maxxing out around 2.4 cm (1 inch). Males and immature females have been found carrrying stinging man-o-war tentacles to use as defensive weapons.
don't talk to me (hulking goddess), my boyfriend (amoeba), OR our third (innocent bystander we kidnapped for use as a living weapon)

"Explaining binary search to a cop" should've caught on as a saying tbh.
I forgot about the context to this. God this is so funny
Image description: screenshot of two paragraphs that read, "Afterward I found a chat room thread among Cambridge computer scientists, one of whom had also been told that unless he could pin down the moment of the theft no one would look at the footage. He said he tried to explain sorting algorithms to police - he was a computer scientist, after all.
"You don't search the whole thing, he said. You use a binary search. You fast forward to halfway, see if the bike is there and, if it is, zoom to three quarters of the way through. But if it isn't there at the halfway mark, you rewind to a quarter of the way through. It's very quick. In fact, he had pointed out, if the CCTV footage stretched back to the dawn of humanity it would still probably have only taken an hour to find the moment of the theft. This argument didn't go down well."
real life: sorry im just not a social media kind of guy… i wanna live in the moment y’know…. im like really private i like having secrets
