The detective squad room was quieter than usual, save for the occasional ringing phone and the hum of conversations from nearby desks. "We have a new witness? That's great news, Chief. I'll stop by as soon as possible. Thank you." Ren set down the phone on his desk and took a moment to process what he'd just heard. A new witness had come forward regarding his father's alleged crime. For the first time in a long while, he felt hopeful.
He was sending a text to his mom when he heard the door to his office open. Looking up from his phone, he broke into a bright smile. "Oh, hey. You're here." He slipped his phone into his pocket and stood from his chair. "Sorry, just give me a second to clock out, then we can go grab lunch. My treat." He said with a rare grin on his face. "Okay, this is...this is overwhelming." Grace said to herself with a laugh as she stood in Times Square. She was walking around the city and trying to get used to where she'd be living from now on.
