Ren Hunter

"Well when you have been through what I have been through, you tend to pick up on how people are." She said. "It can, I've seen a lot of people actually romanticize true crime, I don't know how they do it."

Ren gave a small hum of agreement. "I've never really understood it either." He shook his head. "Mysteries are one thing. Real tragedies are another." A faint smile tugged at his lips. "Though I guess people are always more fascinated by a story when they're not the ones living it."

"It's not even summer yet, and I'm already over this fucking heat." He shook his head. "I need to become aquatic or something, so I'm not as fucking hot all the time." @ggstarterblog

Ren laughed. "If you figure out how to become aquatic, let me know. It's so hot especially when you have to be on uniform all day. It's the worst." He loosened his tie slightly and glanced up at the sun with obvious betrayal. "Wanna go get ice cream or shaved ice? I know a good place."

"Well thank you, Ren." Nate said with a chuckle. "I needed to hear that, actually. I feel like I've been failing a lot, you know? I hate to admit it, but it's just...it's been a lot. Apparently the dragon riders have their powers, so do the Fae, and there's a Fallen Angel here too who also has powers."

"No wonder, that sounds like a lot. Now you have to worry about making rules and laws for the supernaturals. I think you're doing a great job handling these things, that's so much more than a normal mayor usually takes on." Ren nodded his head and crossed his arms. "So their powers just came back all of a sudden? I can barely wrap my head around the vampires and now we've got this influx of new supernaturals too… wow. That's insane."

"I have not been here for that long, but I feel like some people are easier to read more than others. I've also learned that people are way too obsessed with true crime and it's kind of creepy." @ggstarterblog

"You pick up on that pretty fast. Most people are honestly easier to read than they think but there are a fair few who are like locked cases." Ren replied and looked at her. "As for true crime… it has become a weird obsession for a lot of people. They seem to forget that what they're watching or reading about actually happened to someone. It can feel pretty disrespectful sometimes."

"Oh do you?" She asked with a smile. "That's awesome, Ren. Do I get to know what the news is before we start celebrating?"

"Yeah, of course." Ren replied with a smile as he was arranging the files on his table. "It's about my father's hit and run case from years ago." He told her and paused. "My mom and I believed he was wrongfully imprisoned and today, I've heard news that a new witness turned up. We might be able to finally clear his name."

"Take your time, Ren." Reid said as he leaned against the doorframe and raised a brow. "Oh yeah? What are we celebrating today?"

Ren grabbed his jacket and his bag, preparing to leave with his friend. "It's about my father's case. We've been trying to clear his name from the crime we know he couldn't have done and today, a new witness turned up. This is really big for me and my mom. We're hoping they have the answer to what happened." He told him and walked towards the door. "Alright, I'm ready to go. What kind of food are you craving today?"

"Well that's sweet, thank you, Ren." She smiled at him. "Can I know the good news?" She asked as she walked with him.

Ren's smile softened slightly. "A potential witness came forward regarding my father's case." Even saying it aloud felt strange after all these years. "Nothing's confirmed yet but..." He looked down for a moment before letting out a quiet laugh. "It's the first genuinely promising lead I've had in a while." He slipped his hands into his pockets as they walked. "I'm trying not to get ahead of myself but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hopeful."

"i don't think everyone who runs something like that has peaked in high school, john logan's sister has a blog, but at least jules will post the truth." he said. "i mean, it's not horrible. thanks, uh, i'm john tucker, by the way. feel like i should at least introduce myself."

Ren nodded as he listened. "I don't think that's a bad thing. The truth should always come out. Frankly, I would take his sister over Gossip Girl any day." He said and chuckled. "Ren Hunter, I'm a police detective. It's really nice to meet you, John. Random question, what's your favorite place so far in Manhattan?"

"Do I get to know why we are celebrating or no?"

Pushing himself away from his desk, he grabbed his jacket from the back of his chair and headed toward the door, stopping beside him. "A new witness came forward in my father's case." He told him and smiled. "It's still early and I've learned not to celebrate too soon but... it's the most promising lead I've had in years." He said before stepping out with his friend. "Anyway, enough about me. What are you in the mood for?"

"Well that's exciting." Garrick said with a smile. "Do I get to know what's going on or just not yet?" He asked.

"Actually, yeah." Ren nodded his head. "A person connected to my father's case reached out." The smile on his face grew a little more genuine. "I don't know where it'll lead yet but at least the trail isn't cold anymore."

"Yes, yes they are that dumb." She said and looked at Ren. "And I know, but the last thing I am going to do is waste my breath arguing with someone that is that stupid."

Ren laughed, shaking his head in disbelief. "You know what? Fair enough." He lifted his hands in surrender. "Some arguments are just a lost cause from the start." A grin tugged at the corner of his lips. "I mean, if seeing Earth from space isn't convincing enough, I'm not sure what else anyone could possibly show them."

"I feel like Gossip Girl always has something planned, and it's honestly just...kind of annoying." He laughed. "How are you doing, Ren?"

Ren let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. "Yeah, she's got a talent for making sure nobody gets a moment of peace." He took another sip of his drink before glancing back at him. "Me?" He asked and smiled. "I'm doing alright. Work's been keeping me busy, but that's nothing new. Can't complain too much. How about you? Surviving all the chaos?"

"I used to go, but yeah, life just got too busy, the podcast, personal life, and everything else." He said with a shrug. "Yeah, and I think that events like Coachella have become so...over saturated, you know?"

Ren chuckled softly. "You're not wrong. Somewhere along the way it stopped feeling special." He rested his arm against the back of his chair. "Now it feels like everyone goes for the photos, the sponsorships, and the social media posts." He replied and shrugged. "Honestly, I think I'd rather spend a quiet weekend sleeping than fight my way through a crowd of fifty thousand people."

"Yeah, but as annoying as they are, they do tend to boost our economy." Nate said witha shrug. "I'm doing good, doing a lot of good for the city, and I couldn't be more stressed out, but proud at the same time, you know?"

"That's a fair point, sir." Ren replied and looked at him. "You're out there dealing with every possible problem before it becomes a disaster. It takes a certain kind of person to handle that much pressure and still show up every day. You should be proud. Not many people can say they do half the good you do for this city."

"Because Coachella is ridiculously expensive for no reason, we don't have the extra funds for that." She shrugged. "Of course she did, when doesn't she post about something? Even if it's a lie."

"Oh absolutely. It's probably ridiculously priced now, no argument there. I would just come for the music." Ren nodded his head in agreement. "Last time I went, I didn't have to pay. My stepfather tends to send tickets or VIP invites to everything just as an excuse to try and connect or whatever." He added and shrugged. "She's really annoying, what are we celebrities? It might affect my reputation as a police detective."

"I think going for the free food and drinks is the reason anyone goes to her parties, it's not like anything actually happens during them anyways." He shrugged. "And aren't you a PI? You can't really judge anyone for being in someone's personal life or personal space." He joked.

"Might as well enjoy it, I'll think of it as her payment for my mom teasing me about the posts that were written about me recently." Ren shot his head back and laughed. "Oh, you must've mixed things up. I'm actually a police detective and not a PI though I would say it's almost similar but I investigate crimes instead of people."

"Aww thank you, Ren. I appreciate you wanting to slap a weirdo for me." She smiled. "I've been doing good." She said with a nod. "Yeah, I mean, work is just kind of boring, but that's typical." She laughed. "How is that going?"

"No problem, I'm always happy to help. Some men in this city really lack basic decency and respect." Ren replied and smiled at her. "Good, I'm glad to hear that. Well, I've just been digging into the case, finding some discrepancies and talking to the witnesses. So far, I haven't found any leads just yet."
